  • Joined a Priest Tribute, need opinion....

Joined a Priest tribute that has a really great singer. I was hired to "raise the bar" as the guy I replaced sorta sucked. Luckily, after my first show, the singer (caller of the shots) fired the less than adequate Drummer and other Guitarist (hard to work with etc) to REALLY raise the bar, haha... Now, it's basically my old band Paradox with a new singer doing Priest. Me, my bass player, my drummer and one of our old guitarists. Much coolness. Bar officially raised.

    ANYWAYS....

He wants to do add a Halford tune, Resurrection, and two Fight tunes, Into the Pit and Life in Black. I'm totally stoked to do that as it's much more exciting than playing Green Manalishi.

You guys think Priest fans would dig that? Hate that? Have no idea what we're playing?

    Thoughts?

Hell yeah play it! Halford was better after he left anyways and I'd love hearing that stuff as well.

I'd say, just try it a few times, see the crowds' response, and that will be the ultimate decider. I wouldn't think they'd mind an odd Halford tune as long as you keep it 80-90% Priest.

I think you guys should play whatever you want to keep it interesting & challenging for yourselves, but if there is any concern over losing bookings or upsetting fans who only know or want Priest material, then maybe try working in one Halford song at a show to see how it goes over.

Yeah, the Bands name is Resurrection, which is sorta odd for a Priest tribute (IMO) but I do like that name a lot, haha... Maybe the name will change to Painkiller as the whole lineup has changed and the singer may wanna distance himself. Dunno, I know the singer loves the name too. It's just odd for a preist trib sorta. It would mess up our Myspace a lot tho changing the name.

On Friday the 13th, we played a show doing "Burn in Hell" from Jugulator w/Tim Owens, and people seriously went off the hook for it. People all singin the lyrics and shit, was great.

I think the Halford and Fight stuff is seriously powerful. I'll be pleased to play it for sure.

Play the Fight tunes. They are awesome. I am happy I got to see Fight play live when I lived in San Diego. They put on a great show.

Haha, that was another life... Alas....

Too funny, there are like 3 Paradox's JUST in Ohio here, and were all on each others myspace, it's comedic.

One's original, one pays more modern rock, and we play heavy shit like Slayer, Savatage, Metal Church, Accept, Dio, Priest, Sabbath, King Diamond. We're justlooking for a singer. And will still have to tone down a lot of shit to fit him.

I'm preoccupied w/priest for now. Lotsa solos to learn

Nothing wrong doing' those tunes at all!!!

John must remember, that my ol' VH Trib "show" (dressed and in character) included a few popular "Sammy" songs and Goin' Crazy/Yankee Rose/Shy Boy from Dave's "Eat 'em and Smile". I liked those songs since I got to do some Billy Sheehan stuff in those.

But, even though "Ressurection" is a cool name, I strongly think they should change it to easily connect with a Judas Preist tribute band. Something like (Painkiller-Rapid Fire-Sin After Sin- Stained Glass-Victim of Changes- ect) for example. We changed our original name "Valeries Revenge" to Virtual Halen" for this reason, and our singer also wanted to distance himself from his old lineup. I HATED the name "Virtual Halen". But, at least that name was as blatant name as you could get.

BTW..Hopefully my old friend and VH trib guitarist will be a part of John's JP tribute. That would be really fuggin' great! He was in Paradox for a little while..that was fun.
"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
                          Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!

"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

A Priest tribute band should only do Priest tunes.
If you want to do other songs than you can't call yourself a Priest tribute band. You are just a band that plays alot of Priest songs.
