I'm going against the grain here. Asking the JCF bro's if they want to hear Halford/Fight is like asking if people enjoy the missionary position and shooting deer in the face at Rush Limbaugh's birthday party. You are going to get skewed results! The only reason to play out as a cover band is to get the asses in the seats. You can't do that playing stuff that's too obscure. One or two obscure Priest tunes is fine, but the Fight stuff? Nah. People will head for the exits.

My response has nothing to do with how good Halford solo material is. It has all to do with calling yourself a PRIEST tribute band.
Tribute bands try to represent the band they are tributing in every way possible. This includes playing all their hits, many of the hard core fan songs, you need to have a band structure that is similar to the original band and even a look that is close.
In other words... you are representing Priest. They wouldn't play Halford solo songs live. Neither should you.

I thought Priest did Life In Black live when Halford came back? Or am I thinking of a Priest track they did in Halford?
Anyhoo, I definitely agree that a Judas Priest tribute/cover band should only do stuff on Judas Priest albums. It'd be like doing Crazy Train in an Ozzy-era Sabbath tribute band.
But if the fans approve, there's no problem. Not all will, not all won't. They're generally going to hear the vocals and guitar solos and sing along, not looking for "a less expensive carbon-copy".I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

We used to go see a Priest tribute band named Exciter that would come from Long Island and play here in Jersey. When they would start with the Halford and Fight tunes me and my buddies beat feet back to the bar.
I am with John on this. If a band is a Priest tribute band, play Priest songs.Scott

Judas Priest is an extremely important part of metal that needs to be preserved.
Do them solid or I will find your band and kick all of your asses. I take my Priest shit really serious like. Sin after Sin... I have endured... for the wounds I bear.... are the wounds of love.

Trying to calcify the rules of tribute banddom is a little silly to me. If the band catches on doing it, it's fine. If it affects them getting bookings, then drop the songs. Audience response and income should dictate whether you keep the Halford and Fight stuff.
I would say that if you call it Painkiller, though, there are probably more Painkiller Priest tributes than there are Paradox bands in Ohio.Ron is the MAN!!!!

Thats me.... Mr. Silly
Because I have been in a few tribute bands I feel qualified to be the expert in the matter. But keep in mind.. I tend to get pretty silly on Saturday night.
