Another one I can't comprehend is why premeditated murder is worse than some random/spontaneous murder. At least with premeditated murder the people have a reason and took some time to consider their actions - in the other cases they are completely senseless - how is that not just as bad?

I'm with you 100%. My wife is an attorney and we talk about this kind of shit all the time. It's amazing what people get away with on a legal loophole.

Last summer a girl who had been drinking crossed the center line on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in MD. She caused the driver of an 18 wheeler to plunge off the side of the bridge and of course he died.

This also caused the state to spend hundreds of thousands in repair and structural evaluations.

Her punishment: A $35 moving violation citation.

Let's see... no one can refute the fact that he violently murdered a human being that he had never met before for no particular reason. A judge has decided this murderer has such a small grasp of reality that he is not responsible for his own actions. Now Canada gets to pay for the upkeep of a person that serves absolutely no purpose in the world and is most likely beyond repair. I'd say it's time for society to cut its losses and mercifully end this right now. On a side note, Of Mice and Men was written over 70 years ago...
