Last night I bought the Rising in the East DVD. It was in a $10 clearance bin at GC.

I probably got ripped off now that I think about it. Probably cheaper elsewhere.

      Thanks GC

I've watched that Memphis '82 concert way too many times.

I listened to Sin After Sin today, while doing the hoovering. "Last Rose Of Summer" is an awesome song - I love how Priest could do that sort of stuff so well, then rock like bastards on the heavier stuff.

Sure, started with tongue in cheek, Billz.
But you can't deny the founders of modern metal IMO.
Saw them several times throughout the early 80's.
DonP brought a a peculiar division between the Iron Maiden set and the JP fans. I thought that was just a local phenomenon...it was true! I didn't care for the Iron Maiden of that era either-that gallop-it was just too much old Uriah Heep to my ears. Not bad, but not Judas Priest.

Think about what was around...VH was great, but different. Judas Priest had an edge to me and my crowd.

Shredders-not...not ever. Just like any other great genre, it just fit!
Eddie and RR were hot, but just looked like speed spewing note fiddlers compared to the well chosen notes of KK and GT.
Just my opinion, and I'm stickin' to it.

Haha..I actually did this thread as a ball buster to one of our newer members that dedicated threads to very maintream stuff. ..and since my bro John is in a JP tribute band..it just felt right!!

I adore Priest, and Maiden, and ALL quality metal and players ..including early Gamma Ray with Ralph Sheepers of course. But if you love Halford's solo stuff ..you should check into Gamma Ray 2004 "New World Order" and even Helloweens latest 2007 "Gambling with the devil"

I always thought Gamma Ray were some crappy power metal band, with a singer who sounds like a woman - like a lot of those bands.
But man those two vids rocked! I'm gonna have to look into this a bit more.

Still didn't like the Helloween one though, I'll never get into that band.

I can't describe how much I loathe most of JP's material... when Black Sabbath the first metal band came out... they pretty much did everything right musically... the second big metal band Judas Priest... did pretty much everything wrong in my book... metal started with a high note... the next note was out of tune... it shows pretty well my love/hate relationship with heavy metal

I was always more of a fan of Iron Maiden, but still loved Judas Priest.

Maiden are the better band in every way, but that's not a slight on Priest - Maiden are the best metal band ever, easy. Priest are still a great band.

Maiden is great but nothing tops Diamond Head's debut in my book when it comes to NWOBHM, fucking sad what happened to them
