  • Hey you playing in a band!!! --> Instrumental tunes

    I need some help here.

I'm starting a new band (power trio) and while we are looking and auditionning to find a singer, we decided to have fun trying to play a few instrumental songs.

So, I'm curious to hear what instrumental tunes you guys play with your band?

Up to now we're challenging ourselves with these tunes:

Losfer Words (Iron Maiden) - using my Boss GT8 programmable harmonizer to cheat the harmonies. Sounds not bad

Orion (Metallica) - same as above for the harmonies

YYZ (Rush) - Ok, we are far from playing it good but we are having a lot fun!

Other World (an original I did) - see sig to hear it.

I'm looking for songs that will be fun to play as a band, rather than songs for guitar players!

Never could get an instrumental going with my old band - singer wouldn't shut up

    How about:

    Rat Salad - Black Sabbath

First song on side 2 of Everclear's So Much For The Afterglow (I think it's the only instrumental on that one - I had the cassette, not the CD).
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

"Earthtones" by Ted Nugent, from "Craveman" LP. Fucking brilliant.
So I woke up,rolled over and who was lying next to me? Only Bonnie Langford!

      I nearly broke her back

summer song. My old band used to do Mr. scary, but that was in 89-91. More people knew it then.

we have done "mr. eliminator" by dick dale, "pipeline" and "apache" by the ventures, we did a modified version of a bo diddley song that i THINK was called the "diddley stomp".....we do a lot of surf tunes or stuff from the 60's, from bands like the shadows.....it is a lot more fun than pulling out some stupid metal instrumental or a shredder "song".....plus, gotta have your right hand tremolo picking in top shape to play dick dale!!!!!
          GEAR:

some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

          and finally....

i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Great tune! I used to do that one with my funk band back in the 90's. Two more that we did were Pick Up the Pieces and Cut the Cake by Average White Band.

The only one we do is Ides of March, but to me that is basically just the intro to Wrathchild.
