way too much money being pulled from those breaking their backs to pay for those sitting on their asses. In fact, SO much that it has eclipsed both Defense and Discretionary spending...lets treat it like a common sense question....

That free checkup isn't free. Your neighbor had to pay for it. You cut your hand on broken glass and your neighbor got the bill. Your daughter has a baby and goes on assistance......and I get the bill? You get the RR1 and MY credit card gets billed. Sounds good for you doesn't it?

Thinking the gov't should be in all this stuff insures only 2 things..the bill will go up (as it has over the last 40 years of their sustained involvement), and the quality of service (not the technology) will go down as it has over the same amount of time). Factor in the insurance companies draining every penny out of the system for themselves and nothing works...which is the excuse to change it all to something even MORE dysfunctional.

Saw a good bumper sticker today...

You can work social security legally, in order for it to have incentives for non-working beneficiaries. This way, coupled with an earlier retirement age, you can stimulate more young workers into the market. You can put a time limit on jobless security pay outs. You can tie it to employers or to a general gov system. To a semi-public service or to a congregation of unions. You can, at the same time, bind it to obligations for beneficiaries, such as a certain amount of sollicitations per month or trimester. Pushing them towards work. You can create fictional years of 'paid dues' in pension schemes, for people who choose to get a higher education or join a branch of the armed forces. That way these people have incentive to do those things, as the years they've spent toiling away at it, will still be counted towards their pensions, regardless of contributions for those years. You can have other obligations as well: obligations of working for the common good: you get a cheque from social security but still don't have a job? Well then you'll have to clean the streets for a couple of hours each day, or help in public construction projects, whatever. I'm not saying this is how the US should implement it, this is just a possibility. We've just had a big law course on comparative law in social security. A lot of systems work great

          • Basically, american health corporations have gotten 'the people' on their side. And they squeeze them for every penny, whilst being fully supported over the government. Granted the american government is waay fucked up, but slightly less capatilism is NEVER a bad thing. Horns is right, this is a capatilist environment globally, and it cannot sustain forever. Money = quality of life apparently. The answers? MORE ZIMMERS HOLE!! We rule the fucking laaaaaaaaaand!

            • You guys are going to get whats coming to you by leaving .gov fully in charge of healthcare.

GOR brings up another failed system of Social Security...two posts above...

Well I am tired of all this class envy and .gov should take care of me nonsence.

It comes down to who do you trust more the Corporations or .gov?

I chose the corporations because they cant throw me in jail or decide what civil liberties to take away from me based on my medical history.

.gov can and will fuck you when they deny you healthcare treatment based on your age and history regardless of if you have money or not, so you have no one else to cry to but yourselves.

Where does this innate notion come from? The notion that any government just wants to fuck their people over. That to me sounds like it has nothing to do with social security, but with a faulty government and mistrust, which is an ever more fundamental problem. Coïncidentally, you can't say you're not going to brush your teeth any longer, since you chipped one when you were younger. Well you can, but look where that leads! Using a fucked up government as an excuse to not see merit in a government ran healthcare system is, by all means, having your priorities mixed up badly. You need to think over these matters in a more nuanced manner anyway. No one here is saying this or that in absolutes. Social security systems are complicated and balanced to the good of the system and ultimately the people. A careful balance between everyone's rights and balancing of power between governments, autonomous semi-public bodies and private healthcare institutions needs to be sought. Like I said, we did pretty goddamn well in Belgium and it's great to know I'll be taken care of when, god forbid, a serious illness strikes.

if you have such a low opinion of your country and believe that it will become a nazi like police state then I feel sorry for you

Living in a free continent I don't even think about such nonsense.

Hey Benster you're going to be in the NAU with us so mazol tov my friend

                      All joking aside .....
I guess many of you guys respect the American political system much more than us Americans.

For example ~ let's say we have a special department of the gubberment to make lunch bags better for the school kiddies. Sounds like a good idea, rights? However what would most likely happen is national mal-nourishment because to produce the only official gubberment licensed lunch bag machined to exacting specifications with a 1/4 micron tolerance would cost so much to produce(also the applicable taxes and additional add ons for the newly created oversight board(furthermore that tolerance would be out the window)). So now you're kids can of .78$ beenie weenies can only be transported in an official gubberment lunch sack 100$ each(no re-use, as that would be un-patriotic).

                      Damnit man

You have not heard about veterans losing their right to bear arms because of PTSD. In California they are already cross refrencing gun registration with mental health records. Leaving it up to regulatory agencies to decide who can have what rights. This is very dangerous.

Second Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.

                              Read all about it here:

no it's not about that... I believe that in modern western world the people wont allow their country turn into a nazi state... politicians are assholes everywhere you just have to bite them in the ass real hard... I mean there's some rather peaceful countries where people openly protest or use other measures against every stupidity which the politicians make... and such things are done pretty often so it's gonna cost a lot for the politicians... that's why they are scared of the people... they know if they step over the line there's a chance of chaos. People can gather together, use every media channel, stop serving the infrastructure etc. There's been rather silly riots too but the power of the people works. You wonder why EU politicians are such a pansies with all their PC crap. It's because they are afraid to piss off the people, they can't use any drastic measures... they want to keep the peace at all costs. No one wants another 1939.
