I love his remake of the Thing. Scared the hell out of me when I first saw it around 13 years old.

The Thing was awesome. The effects in that movie still look good.

I really liked The Thing too... funny thing is I didn't dig the original that much even though I'm a huge fan of Howard Hawks

The original The Thing (The Thing From Another World) was good. It was the first movie that allowed the recording of 2 conversations at the same time, and they did it almost all through the movie. Previously in movies, only one person could be speaking at once or the sound gear would go crazy.

Granted it wasn't laden with special effects and action throughout, but that was back in the days when the thought of something was more terrifying than the actual existence. That was horror, not the gorefests and special effect orgies that came later (and persist today).

Big alien badass beating on a door vs a rubber-coated mechanical goo-dispensing puppet. Hmmm, lemme think which one was more scary.....

            Big guy wins.

            But yeah, Snake pwns.

Kurt Russel could do a convincing badass, especially coming off those old Disney teenager movies. Today the same character would be portrayed as more of a wiseass than a hardass with a bag full of sarcasm.

Actually Howard Hawks used this conversation technique earlier with his comedies which starred Cary Grant... like "His Girl Friday" (1940) for example. He made "The Thing" about 10 years later. But yeah anyway, he sure was the innovator.

Kurt Russel is a fuggin' ACTOR, "Snake Plisskin" my ass..I'd beat him with his own fuggin' shoe.

Joe Pesci..now that's a baddass actor. He'll stab you in the neck 20 times with a pen. But he's acting in "Casino". I'd kick the lil', old dago up the ass. Actually, I wouldn't, because I love Joe Pesci..Joe Pesci would kill Snake Plisskin...with a pen.

                You guys are fags!!

                But I love ya..

There's a remake of Escape From New York in the works apparently. The supposed script was leaked about a year ago and one of the reviewers on Aint It Cool News gave a great synopsis with shitloads of spoliers. Sounds very cool, even though I usually detest remakes/reimaginings.

Btw, John Carpenter's The Thing is one of the greatest movies of all time, imo and Rob Bottin's FX are second to none.

I saw that at the theater. I was right up front and jumped like a muthfucker during that blood test scene. Southpark did a spoof of that scene in the lice episode.

<=== Evil fucking Dead. I got my avatar cause I bought a shirt with that image of cheryl on it. Coolest shirt I've ever seen. Evil Dead 2 is my favourite movie ever... Bruce is the king, nothing more to it.

I did get the escapes recently to go through again, cause I can only half remember one of them after waking up from a heavily medicated headcold nap with it on. Way trippy!
