  • Las Vegas VS Atlantic City? Accommodations/casino recommendations?

    Wow, long time no see!

So, in order to satisfy both my travelling and gambling aspirations, I thought about taking a trip to a resort city. I haven't decided between Las Vegas or Atlantic City, but will probably base it on the cost of the trip. Given I'm in eastern Canada, it may be cheaper and quicker to stay in my timezone and go to Atlantic City. But in Vegas, I may get to kick Ed Roman's ass. Decisions, decisions!

I was Googling for the least expensive hotel accommodations but thought that the JCF could also offer some personal recommendations, given our penchant for hunting deals while going big. I really would just need a basic room as I would be spending most of my waking hours at the tables! Some of the hotels I've looked at already are just too unnecessarily extravagant and I don't want to pay for this.

    Criteria:
-Must be close to the casino(s) and entertainment. Walking distance.
-Hotel room must be as cheap as possible (I am okay with no TV, no wireless internet, no luxuries, no living room, etc.) but not be seedy/dirty. Just your basic double/queen bed in a small room with an attached basic bathroom is fine. What is that on the star ratings, two stars maybe?

    That's basically it.

    Thanks guys!

There is no comparison. Las Vegas wins in every way. Atlantic City was known for being very seedy. They've been trying to turn it around by installing that outdoor upscale mall, but it does not compare to LV. Not to say there aren't seedy LV areas, but it's much more vast.

I don't have specific recommendations for stay. I was last there in 05 for a friends Bachelor party weekend. We stayed at the MGM which was decent accomadations. We gambled a bit there, but we're constantly on the move to other casinos. There's much more to do in LV vs AC. The first 24 hrs, we met up, gambled, hit a club, played a couple hr poker buy in where the world series of poker's played, and finally ended at a strip club...for some fun at last!

Excalibur is very kick ass too. MGM was probably my favorite. They were just building NY, NY when I was out there..yeah it's been a long time.

Vegas. Atlantic City doesn't even come close.

If you don't mind staying a bit off the strip the Orleans isn't that bad a place to stay at. The Tuscany is easily within walking distance of the strip as well. You might find cheaper rooms at those two places.

Of course with the times the way they are every place is giving away deals.

I live 1 hour from AC and without a doubt I'd recommend Vegas. I drive down to AC to catch a plane to Vegas , bypassing it.

AC is good for your random gambling - get in and out as fast as you can - there's nothing to see there.

            Vegas is worth the trip.

Las Vegas for sure. We stay at the Hooters Hotel and it cheap and close to the strip. For gambling , I hit the casinos off the strip, and downtown (station) and usually have better luck than the casinos on the strip. Shows, Bars nightlife, Vegas for sure.

Even if u were only into gambling and wanted to stay on the east coast, I'd still not say AC. I'd prefer the foxwoods casino in CT. It's a real nice facility. I think at one point it was and may be still is the largest casino in the northern hemisphere, cos there always adding on to it. They get some known talent there show-wise too. The only downfall is the entire facility is in the middle of nowhere.

right now you can get some sick cheap deals in Vegas too, they are way down on capacity and visitors this year, so prices are down too!

and yeah, AC is a shithole. the only thing good about AC was the Steel Pier where we used to surf back in the day right north of the casinos there. used to be burned out gutted tenements right up to the boardwalk there, we'd be going by bums with our wetsuits and boards on to get to the beach to paddle out. some good waves tho.

Try the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. Pretty cheap and close to the Strip. I was going to tell you to stay at the Hard Rock which is awesome, but you said one or two star.
