Computer sound driver issue

OK, I clicked on a dodgy internet link, and POW! it kills my PC with several trojan horses. So I re-format my hard drive, and try to re-install everything. Unfortunately, when trying to install my sound device or my Boss GT-10, I get the dreaded "Error loading streamci". Those viruses have obviously killed off a load of drivers (.dll files). I've uninstalled, then tried to re-install and get the same error. I'm no computer wizkid. So can someone please help.

One burning question - can I assume that there are viruses in the BIOS, and if so, how can I find and kill them? Or must I flash the BIOS and start again?

It is highly unlikely you have a BIOS virus. Go to the manufacturers website and get the latest drivers for your sound.

I un- and re-installed my Boss GT-10's driver, then re-installed the GT-10, an got exactly the same error. I've been into Device manager which won't let me delete audio because it doesn't have an option to do so. I've un- and re-installed my sound card which gave me the same error. Quite often I get a delay in response to my commands, hence I was under the impression the virus(es) might have got to my BIOS. Or is it because my sound drivers aren't there that the GT-10 won't install properly?

I've been in IT for 12+ years and I've never personally heard of a BIOS virus. The BIOS wouldn't be a very good target for a virus because it's limited to only certain options for your hardware unless a virus could actually flash it, which is doubtful.

However... I have to ask: since you reloaded, is your sound card integrated or add-on? If it's integrated, is it enabled in the BIOS? Or....if it's an add-on, make sure that if you have an integrated one, it's turned OFF so the resources won't conflict.

Just for future reference, rather than reloading if you get a spyware attack, run SuperAntiSpyware instead. The free version is all you need and it's pretty amazing.

That's a new one for me. I have good luck on customer's systems with Spybot Search & Destroy.

The motherboard is an Abit NF-M2P/NF-M2S AMD socket AM2 type. The sound card is integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6100 +430/+405. I've been to NVIDIA's website, where I searched for audio drvers, but didn't find anything specific to the 6100.

Probably have to get the 6000 series audio drivers.

Then again, I thought Nvidia GeForce was video. My Nvidia/XFX mobo has realtek HD integrated audio.

At any rate, if your soundcard's driver isn't loaded, then nothing related to audio that depends on the soundcard's drivers will load (including the GT10 drivers).

Get Microsoft's UAA (Universal Audio Architect) driver, google it, download and install it.
You can pick up your mobo drivers form AMD's web site as well or your driver disk too.

I had an intel board at work today, that I had to install Microsoft's UAA in combination with Realtek's High Definition driver to get the sound to work. Simple stuff but can be frustrating at times.

I'm not saying thats the case with you, but something to consider.
