ok, a friend/co-worker of mine needs to have a cancer-ridden kidney removed. We work for the state, and I thought we had good insurance...well, she needs five grand up front before they will take it out. WTF??? So myself and others have started raising money. We have alot of ideas that we are gonna try but I am definitely open for suggestions. She is a really sweet girl and has children. Or, if you wanna throw a dollar bill in an envelope, pm me for an address. We have almost 300 employess here, you would think that if everyone donated a few bucks it would be covered. Never seems to work out that way though. Thanks in advance guys.

Do a little more checking. I know that when a patient came to my clinic and had not met their deductible, we would agree to bill them for that amount, but we also tried to get a small percentage upfront. However, they were not obligated to pay ANYTHING upfront.
It may be that hospitals are getting stiffed (imagine that, after all the years they've stiffed patients) by the insurance companies as well as the patients. Sometimes getting some amount up front is better than getting nothing after the procedure."POOP"

Ok, the doctor's are claiming it's not life-threatening until BOTH kidneys are diseased, then they do a transplant. WTF!?!?! Why not take the damn thing out before it spreads??? She's a nice girl too, with 3 kids. I realize alot of people don't pay their bills and this probably is a result of some of that, but damn.I still keep practicing though.... I'd get a second opinion soon, if not find another Dr. altogether and see how he or she handles her case. Do this soon. Cancer doesn't play fair.
If the billing of this procedure goes much better with the potential other Dr, than that's a positive. However, that doesn't mean the Dr. will be better but it does help relieve the financial concerns a bit. In a situation like this, you have to pick your battles, so to speak. Meaning, getting that bad Kidney out is top priority. One can live and function normally with one good kidney.
This procedure can't be placed on the back burner too long or that will create much other unwanted health risks. I wouldn't drag my feet, I would get on the phone first thing and help her get the procedure done sooner than later.
This will have to be a quick learning process. Make the calls and you will learn more each time you make a call. Write the information down if you have to. I had a professor one time during a lecture say and it's stayed with me ever since, "be informed, the more informed you are the better decision/s you will make." That is very true.
So learn quickly what you need to do to help make this happen soon.
My mind is shot a pencil and paper for me is a God send.
I can't hardly remember nothing these days.
The early years of wild hard living has caught up with me and my body knows it and is affected.
P.S.
Don't know if you have or haven't thought of about it but don't start selling off stuff.
Make the calls first and then go from there. Call your insurance people to get some answers straight from the horses mouth, then call some other Doctors.
I'm sorry this unfortunate, tough and difficult time has come upon you.

We're gonna do all the usual stuff...bake sales, frito pie dinners, raffles. I would walk across Oklahoma for her if I could get someone to sponsor me. Someone at work averaged it out and came up with 12 bucks a person. You know how that goes, though. Some ppl will give a lot more than that, and others won't do anything. We have a local radio station that does "swap shop"...I'm gonna post on there and offer my services for lawn care and such and give the money to her.I still keep practicing though.... My Mother had colon cancer in 2003, which was removed successfully.
Then she came up with lung cancer in 2005, and they removed the top lobe of her left lung.
Then she died of liver cancer which was either not found in time or misdiagnosed and then "forgotten about" by the Dr.
Ask Dr Moneysack why he wants $5K up front if the one cancerous kidney isn't posing a threat and he isn't going to do anything? His yacht up for repo? His Country Club membership dues? Boob job for his little plaything intern?
Tell the fucker he can keep the kidney to further the "Cancer Research" they claim they're doing.
You could take her on a trip to Mexico and see if she wakes up in a tub of ice after they remove one of her kidneys (hopefully the cancerous one), which they then sell to a Dr in America (hopefully the same one) and he transplants it into a patient only to be sued to death later for it.
Irony rocks.
Then again, she'd be the one to get the same kidney back:

"No shit, Sherlock!"
Anyhoo, there's also donation buckets you can put up in stores.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood
