Sorry to hear that Shawn. I know I'd be freakin devastated if it were me.

Glad to hear that you gave her what she needed after the torment she probably went through before you got her.

Sounds like that you and your family really took her in as part of the family, so I am sure that it really hurts.

Just think back to all of the fun and happiness that having her in your life provided you and your family, and how fortunate you all were to have that.
I live on the edge of danger facing life and death every single day.....then I leave her at home and go disarm bombs.

thanks guys, I apprecate it. Never knew it would be this difficult to deal with. Gucci was getting old and I was dreading the day I would have to take her in to put down...wish now that I had that chance. I figured she had a few more years left. It was so sudden, one minute she's sleeping in the family room, then next she's gone...

          Sorry to hear that Shawn.
Our pets are our family too. It always hurts when one of them passes.

So sorry to hear of this, Shawn. I remember meeting her at your place way back when. She's a good girl, for sure. I can say that I never again want to make the decision to put a pet down. I know that I'll have to deal with it some day, but it's soul crushing, to say the least.

            Thoughts to your family.

Shawn, I'm very sorry for your loss of Gucci. My family went thru this last summer with Pico, and it was especially hard on my wife. I wanted to wait before getting another Chihuahua but my wife wanted one immediately..maybe to help her with her loss. 5 days later we bought Bella. It wasn't too soon like I thought..It really occupied my wife with a new puppy. I must say that really helped , but everyone's grieving process and how they handle it is different. Bella didn't "replace" Pico, they are different as night and day but both are so awesome in their own ways. Bella will be exactly one year old tomorrow, it's her birthday. We miss Pico very much and always will, but Bella does fill the void with her silly ass.

              Take care my friend,

              RIP Gucci (great name)

Sorry to hear this Shawn. It's tough to lose a pet...I went through this a few years back with my Boxer, Lambert. Just remember all of the great times and feel good about the fact that you gave her a great life.

My condolences - when a dog goes, it always brings an "Ol' Yeller" tear to my eye.

I've gone through this 3 times myself - Spike, my first dog - a Keeshond - when I was 16. Niko, "my" Golden Retriever, about 5 years ago, and Odin, "my" Yellow Lab about two years after Niko (I say "my" because I left them with my parents when I moved out).

Unfortuneately, none of them went quick. Spike had pancreatic cancer at 7 years, and back then, we didn't know, so we let the vet operate. In the end, Spike lasted another couple of months before we had him put down rather than go under the knife again. Niko was 12 or 13 when he stopped eating. This was a 120 lb golden - he LIKED to eat. He had some massive tumors in his guts. We had him put down. Odin was going a little blind and insane at 14, then had a stroke, but was just clinging on. We had to have him put down as well.

Its sad - I don't want any of my animals to suffer - to me, that's the worst form of abuse - when the time comes that the animal is just not healthy, I prefer the option to give them the rest they deserve.

edit: (current dogs - that's Mungo on the right - black Cocker Spaniel - and Magoo on the left - Springer/Clumber mix - about 14 weeks in that pic)
