New Car Day!(hopefully)

Nothing cool or hot rodded but since I drive around 90 miles to and from work I am getting a 2010 Honda Insight. With the eco function on it is supposed to get over 50 MPG on the highway. Last year I was up to almost $300 in gas a month. Screw that!
The color me and the wife wanted is supposed to be in today.

cool - congratulations. Honda makes good stuff. I sort of did the same thing last July albeit not a 50MPG'er. I got tired of paying a hundred bucks to fill up mt F150 SuperCrew and bough a Civic coupe that gets 25/35h MPG

That looks like a jetta and a prius had a baby. How much is that thing? The Fusion Hybrid gets 41 mpg and is a real midsize car for 35k. Expensive for me but I cant imagine the Honda being much cheaper. Does the govt give you any tax credits for buying a hybrid?

I think that ran out last year. Although Obama may have put another one in as part of the pork factory known as the stimulus package.

only tax credits on american hybrid cars and electric. I can take the sales tax as an deduction though.
the higher model with a few options and all taxes and fees is $24,400.

Oh, not too bad at all. I remember when a used prius was like 25k when gas was over $4 a gallon. This looks nicer than a prius. Congrats.

Awesome! I think we're finally seeing hybrid technology start to mature.

One question: how does it drive? Being a manual trans kind of guy, I'm wary of those one-gear CVTs.

It drives very smooth. You can sometimes feel when the engine kicks in from a stop though,but it's not as much as a manual trans shifting. I can actually drive the can in manual mode(no clutch) with the shifter on the stearing wheel.
I won't be beating anyone away from a light anytime soon.
