  • Need nanny ...err security camera

Okay, so we got a live-in nanny, which my wife is breaking in til she starts work. But since we don’t really know her from adam, we’re looking at spy … err nanny cams. Any of u have experience with these systems? The cameras range from basic to pretty savy, and the price reflects it. Ideally, we want something that will record directly to the home pc drive, has sound, but still can see live via the internet.

Initially, my wife went hired a guy to install this fancy wireless model, but the it’s a bit buggy and freezes up too much, and also, it depends too much on the server as it uses the wireless modem to transmit:

We were going to return it and go with this basic Logitech model which also has a incognito clock camera:

    Anyways, any insight is welcome.

That nanny is hot and you just want to spy on her

Sorry, but most of us poor folk can't afford a nanny (or a webcam)

if you make it a subscription service, the webcam can pay for the nanny!

The PC's speed will determine the reliability of the camera system - dropped frames, frozen/blank moments, etc.

Turn off your PC's automatic updating and virus scanning (which will hog the system resources), as well as any downloading stuff (don't leave it downloading movies and such while you're at werk).

Pretty much dedicate one PC to nothing but the camera system.

A hardwired system will be more reliable than wireless IMO, but it also depends on the speed of the camer-to-PC interface - internal card or external/USB/Firewire stuff?

I've often though of building a surveillance system but I've never liked the blurry/crappy quality I've seen (which defense lawyers always attack), so I thought of spending the extra $$ on quality video cameras - 3CCD, that sorta thing. They're a little harder to hide than the typical Nanny Cam but the image detail is worth it in the event something does happen.

You might also look into a GPS locator for the child. Not an implant, but maybe a MedicAlert bracelet, or something you can insert into the lining of a blanket or diaper bag.

Cos I like to watch! ....

Thanks for the info on PC equip and that website. And for the record, she ain't winning any beauty awards, so a pay service won't work! lol We picked up that Logitech one, which seems relatively simple to set up, but I'm sure I'll screw it up over the weekend!
