Nice game for the Yanks last night. 7 1/2 game lead with home games against the Rangers and White Sox coming up. 7-3 on their road trip which is not bad at all.
Had a week off last week. Visited San Diego and made a trip to Petco Park to see the Padres play the Cardinals. My wife is a St. Louis native so the Cards are my adopted NL team. Only game I've ever been to where more than half the stadium was empty. Cool park though! Kids got baseballs from the players during batting practice and had a great time!
Tommy...also finished the Torre book. Good read...love how Verducci is always ripping Arod in some underhanded way throughout the book. Picked up October Men about the '78 Yankees on the trip and am reading that now. That's a good book.

Verducci is a lamo.
Did i tell you that i went to every single playoff and world series game in '76, '77, and '78? At Yankee stadium of course.'81 I was away at school. We had season tix.
'78 was great because of the 14 game comeback, i couldn't believe it.Not helping the situation since 1965!

14 1/2 to be exact... . That's very cool that you were at the Stadium during that time in Yankees history. I think my first game at the Stadium, Rick Cerrone was the starting catcher.
Rockies have a chance, if they win the division, to eclipse the '78 Yankees with the biggest deficit to come back from and win the division. They were 15 1/2 out in May, and are only 3 out right now with a series against LA coming up shortly.
I tell you though, the damn Angels still scare the crap out of me as a Yankees fan. Not sure I'm confident facing them at any time. But the Yanks are looking real good right now. Well..except for Burnett on Saturday.

yeah, but the yankees were 14.5 back much much later in the season that year.
Yanks have one more 3 game series out here in september, they will start to shed the Angel hold over them. I actually want the angels in the ALCS if the yankees get that far, I want them to sledgehammer them in the kneecaps and end this shit.
The Rockies are on a roll with two eggs and butter right now.
Rockies -Dodgers-3 game set starting tomorrow. Not helping the situation since 1965!

I would like them to get off the Angels snide for once. This year we have the pitching to do it.
The one thing I didn't realize about '78 is the Yankees could have sealed up the division on the final day and laid an egg against the Orioles or something. I forget but just read that part in the book.

the yankees were 3games ahead and lost the last 3 games of the regular season, it was as big of a collapse as the sox had when you take them both in proportion.
My Dad told my Mom that there was absolutely no chance of work or school for the both of us for that one game playoff. He was a hot shit i tell you!!Not helping the situation since 1965!

that one game playoff JK was some tense shit.
Everyone forgets that Reggie Jackson hit the a monstrous game winning home run in the end of the 5-4 win.
This call i have forever burned into my brain, not to make fun of boston, but because of the joy it brought at the time, the yankees were not hitting at all for the first 6 innings of that game. Wasn't looking to good for a while
"Deep to left!!! Yaztremski's not gonna get it, it's a home run for Bucky Dent!!"
And he broke his bat right before that and got a new one. Smashed a ball off his ankle too. I still don't believe that game. Not helping the situation since 1965!
