I would understand a specific design, as in a guitar with the exact same arrangement of colored lines, but any random arrangement of black and white lines on a red background? If Ed wants to make some serious money, why not go through the VH vault and release a live DVD of Roth era VH? They could even do like Kiss and make several volumes from the different tours from opening for Sabbath through the 1984 tour. How many of us would buy every damn one of them? I would. But no - that might require actual work and thought and would make the fans happy - can't have that.

In reality, the target market for these shoes would be basically kids - college age and below. I'll bet dollars to donuts that maybe 1 or 2 in a hundred kids college age and under would make the EVH connection based on these shoes.

Just because current law supports claims like this, doesn't mean that it's right to do so. Copyright law - while necessary and prudent - is overly broad in this regard.

I agree totally. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing these OR Eddies shoes. Eddie so missed the boat to capitalize on his designs. Had he not been such an ass about taking his toys and going home in the late 70's - early 80's, he could have made a fortune selling his guitars - think Gene Simmons. Now, not only is the shit way overpriced, but it's a day late and a dollar short - especially since he hasn't put out any new music since the 90's. No one but us old farts gives a rats ass anymore.

I think Ed is gonna lose his ass on this one. Nike has more money and better attorneys plus are great at destroying stupid copyrights. If you go by the letter of Ed's copyright then maps and anything else with intersecting lines on a solid background is an infringement.
