Iagree, however, if you can make a "pretty" guitar (Strat, LP, Warrior, etc) play just as good or better than say an Airline or Ovation Breadwinner or some other "ugly" guitar, would you still use the ugly one over the "pretty" one?

the best guitar i had was a gibson desert burst a very good looking guitar but i would play any guitar that plays better even on looks

You should better define what you mean by how a guitar looks because there are (2) elements that determine whether or not a guitar looks good or bad to some folks.

First, there's the physical condition - is it beat up or in pristine shape?

Second, is the finish itself aesthetically pleasing to you?

Well, I can have any guitar made to look good to me. I bought (2) PGM301s which were only available in white but I got bored with their look pretty quickly so I had them refinished. Beyond that, why buy a guitar that you don't really like the look of (even if it sounds good) when you can get a guitar that sounds good AND looks good.

That would depend on what the guitar was to begin with and how much it cost compared to one that was scratched up.

I pretty much only buy guitars that are in nearly perfect condition because I've never run across one that was scratched up that I really wanted.
