Sorry Jay, anyone who believes the earth is only 6000 years old has no credibility when it comes to scientific debate. Take your oil company and fundamentalist bullshit propaganda elsewhere please.

Honestly, I want to hear how the Bible's 6000 year old earth and science's Billions of years old earth can be reconciled by relativity.

Just where did I state that I only believe the earth is 6000 years old? Can't find it? That's because I never said it ~ oil company propaganda, what are you going on about?

I've never "seen" you say it, but I'll bet you can't prove you didn't say it. So you must have said it. Therefore, I will start referring to you as J-y.

            Who told you the bible states the earth is only 6000 years old? However the second part of your question is going to be a good time;

I'll have to address this in the morning though, I'm currently at work at may not have the necessary time to complete this subject!

Well, I think most of you know where I stand on religion. You really can't be any more at odds with Christianity, and other "white light" based faiths than myself. But who am I to burst the bubbles of friends and family that find comfort and inspiration in such a faith. I detach a person's race, beliefs, gender, and personal sexual preference and judge people on their merits as a human.

I can honestly say that I never witnessed Jay give anyone a hard time or attack on a personal level, no matter of difference of opinion. He ALWAYS treated me with respect even tho my beliefs are the antithesis of his own. Now if he was an asshole, who treated others like assholes..well, you know how I react to that shit.

With that said, I don't care what someone believes when they're responsible, accountable people that treat others with geniune kindness, and humble enough to give praise when warranted. So, For better or worse, I'm obligated to treat people how they treat me.

I mat not share Jay's views or give a flying fuck about things as Global Warming. But I can respect people that do..as long as they're cool, and not a total douche.

I consider guys like Rich, Jay, MarkD freinds, and I know this is mutual.

EX: who doesn't love their grandparents. Most of them are very religious and believe in God big time!!! You wouldn't go out of your way to burst their bubbles..

              Exactly..

I used to be realy outspoken on the issue. Not anymore..what's the point.

I'm kinda with Bill on this, I personally am not religious but that doesn't mean I dislike other people because of that. One of my best friends is a pentecostal. I also used to have a Muslim friend. They don't bother me, I don't bother them. We may argue differing views but we never go far enough to actually insult each other.

As for Global Warming, I think it's a bunch of crap created mainly by politicians as a platform to squeeze votes out of people. I don't blindly follow scientific research because it isn't always right.

I'm getting ready to crash from work, but in a nut shell; Gravitational time dilation(I'll explain in greater depth later, if needed).

I am aware you didn't say this, but you are being vague. You have implied that you believe in young earth theory, so what is the number?

I would say the greater depth is very much necessary, please

Very well put, I don't really share religious or political views with everybody here, but I find the subjects fascinating and like to discuss them. It also kind of gets my panties in a wad to see people being disrespectful of science and scientists. Scientists don't know everything, and they are wrong sometimes. Knowing this fact does not give one a free pass to disbelieve everything they say. Yes, the theory of global climate change may be proven wrong someday, but it hasn't yet, and it very much does follow the scientific process. There is a large amount of agreement amongst the scientists about it, which is actually unusual for a recent scientific theory. Einstein was famously dubious of quantum mechanics, for example, which has proven to be a marvelously useful theory.

As for global warming, the opposition seems to be mostly political, not scientific. And I completely disagree that its advocacy has mainly been from politicians, scientists were warning about this for decades before Al Gore got on board. People here seem to have the belief (and I know Jay is not alone in this, as I said) that it is WRONG and beneath contempt. Witness his original statement when he used it as an example to show how scientists are full of it.

That being said, I will let global warming go, that is not the purpose of this thread. Bring on the relativistic new earth bible theory!

                          • First of all, let me be clear. I do not dislike Jay because of his beliefs. I'm sure he's a cool cat on every other level other than the religion stuff. Some of my best friends are totally on board with the lord, and I get endless pleasure from teasing them about their insistence on believing adult fairy tales.

That aside though, Jay you have some serious explaining to do with regard to "Gravitational time dilation". I'm fairly well versed in the basics of physics, so I cannot wait for someone to FINALLY give me a scientific explanation for how fundamentalist Christians believe the world is only 6,000 years old.

                            • the Earth is older than 6000 years, science proves that.

I firmly believe in God and his son. I really don't think I'd be here today if I didn't. This is a guitar forum and don't have the time nor energy to explain/debate my beliefs to people who don't believe. I believe what I believe and you are free to believe in anything you want....even if its wrong

I will say that science can't always prove everything

                              • I firmly believe in Zeus. Therefore, you are wrong if you don't believe like I do. Why? Because I said so and because somebody wrote some literature a few thousand years back.

See how easy it is to be religious when you're willing to throw all logic and rationality out the window? Facts, data, proof, bah humbug. Zeus and his family are real, I wouldn't be here without their grace.
