I am just looking for a basic setup with maybe some fretwork.

My mistake, I thought you were looking for a tech for your band.

Dare I say this, but Guitar Center has contracted out their tech services. (not sure about the NW Suburbs) They go with 3rd Coast which is in the West Loop. But they pick up instruments from GC. Have you inquired about it there? I think the Arlington Heights location does. Maybe Gil will be able to give you a better idea.

Yes, I used 3rd coast guitars before (I think it used to be called Bob's guitar repairs). I was very happy with them but the last setup they did for me was not very good. I don't see the guy who did my previous setups there anymore and decided to try another shop.

Tully kicks ass. He worked at the Sam Ash in Lombard (he may still, I'm not in that area anymore), but he's a Roberto-Venn grad and a hell of a good guy.
