I fitted my first cat flap yesterday. cat not very impressed more confused.

cat goes out so I set the cat flap to go in only. eventually she is so confused by the flap I open the door to let her in. 4 am I get up for a piss.

in walks some random cat. get spooked and tries to escape.

The flap is set to in only. so this cat freaks out and runs round the house looking for a way out.

Eventually I get hold of it and get it out of the back door.

some re thinking of my current flap policy may be needed.

Setting the flap to "in" will allow stray cat to get "in". Set it to "both ways", put your cat in front it, lift "door" and throw food thru it to make sure it can get in and out. Get a second cat, stray cat will think twice before getting beaten and drag it's sorry ass out of your garden.

I've got a solution:

Get a dog.

My cats got the dog door almost instantly. My dogs on the other hand were a bit stupid about it. I had to get my wife to stand outside while I stood inside. I would push the dog through the door, he would walk around outside confused, then my wife would pick him up and push him back through. After about 10 minutes of this he got. In regards to strays I have only had one come in and that was when it was cold.

Cat flaps/piss flaps, both the same principle : designed to help pussy piss more easily, they look great, but sooner or later something's going to appear there that really shouldn't be there at all, and if it's next door's dog, you are in big trouble. Also, one day you will have a few drinks and decide to stick your head in. Disaster looms. You will get stuck and the whole street will know about it.
