Here's a quote from the press release Gibson just issued.
"Les Paul has become the only individual to share membership into the Grammy Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the National Inventors Hall of Fame, and the National Broadcasters Hall of Fame".
Jimmy Page totally owes everything to Les Paul's inventions!
God bless you, Les, may you rest in peace for all the good you've done us musicians and listeners!Ron is the MAN!!!!

Sad news, but not totally unexpected.
Hopefully this will spur whoever owns his catalog (audio and video) to dump them onto the store shelves. I want legit copies of his duets with Chet, and all the video footage I can get, and not from YouTube.
I've got a boxed set of the Les Paul / Mary Ford albums, and they're just pure magic.
And yeah, the man that invented multi-track recording, the solidbody electric guitar, the electromagnetic pickup, sampling-on-the-fly, and the tape-driven loop/analog delay box won't get half the recognition he deserves from the mainstream media since he wasn't a crazy-black-man-who-wanted-to-be-white pedophile.
August 13th should be World Les Paul Day. It should hereafter be commemorated with music festivals, a technology fair, and a biographical video display with Les telling in his own words how and when he did the things he did to make modern music possible.
And Ebay will be full of douchebags selling Les Pauls at twice their normal price, hawking "built before he died, when he had his eye on quality control - the new ones they made today aren't as good as the ones they made yesterday".
Rest In Peace, Sir.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

All talk about the guitar and inventions is awesome...but he may have been the original shredder. I can't think of anyone who played as fast and cleanly at that time.
I am all for World Les Paul day...great idea Newcwww.JerryRobison.com
