Yeah, I generally don't like tons of chorus and delay and stuff. A little delay and reverb is good for recording, though. Not like, 80's New Wave "bury the guitar under effects" kind of crap but just a very short delay with very little repeat and play with the wet/dry mix. Or you can double- or triple-track everything. It just sounds fuller.

I got you. I know what you mean. Yeah, I wasn't thinking he meant ramp up the chorus and delay pedals - just a little reverb or something to give a little "room" sound to it, right?

Exactly. When you go direct like that vs. with a mic you don't get ANY room sound and it sounds "fake" because it's direct. At least, I think it does.

A digital simulator sounds fake because it is fake, CGI looks fake because it is fake, rubber doll feels fake because it is fake, both technologies - not counting the doll - are capable of producing somewhat decent results though.

            Why not counting the doll?

Because you have to wash the doll after you use it.

Nah, she smells like seawater and old earwax, just like I like.

That's all I was getting at - a little ambiance to make it sound like is was recorded in a room (or hall) as opposed to being in a shoebox. When I'm just screwing around I generally don't like a lot of effects (just a little delay to thicken things up a bit) and I also understand that the lack of any effects can be a desirable affect in itself.

I guess it doesn't really matter anyway. It really matters how it sounds with drums and bass going on too.
