  • Savatage Contest sponsored by me with (small) prizes

The Orion contest got me thinking....

I've been rocking out to Savatage for the last 2 hours or so, its just a shame these guys never got their due.

Anyway, I wanted to get a couple more Savatage fan videos on youtube, and since I suck, I can't make that happen. I guess a bribe is in order....

So, here is the Savatage cover contest!!!

    Rules:
    • Do a Savatage Cover (that was tough)
    • The song MUST have the solo by either Criss Oliva or Chris Caffery (Oliva II in my mind). No offense to Pitrelli or Skolnick, but these two are the essence of Savatage.
    • I don't care if you play note for note, but if you vary from the song, it better be in killer taste and style!
    • Make the thing rock! I don't want to see a statue playing!!
    • The song MUST be played on a Jackson/Charvel (ok, if you don't have a J/C, you should really get one, but I'll let it slide if your video owns)
    • I'll let this thing run until hopefully there are 15+ entries, but if it goes too long I'll sadly call it. Post your videos in this thread.

    Prizes:

First place: Pickup of your choice from my "stash"
    • Duncan Dimebucker
    • Duncan Invader
    • Duncan JB bridge (trem spaced)
    • Duncan Jazz neck
    • Random no name that allegedly came out of a DK2

Second place: A pack of strings
    • Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (10s)
    • Elixir light nanoweb acoustic (I think phosphor bronze, but maybe 80/20)
    • I have a couple sets of bass strings, check with me if you win

Third place: Sorry I don't have really anything more
    • Trem spring
    • Random pot
    • Maybe I'll find something else

I can't say exactly what the criteria will be for judging, just overall awesomeness. Not necessarily perfect technical playing, but that will help.

If you read any other guitar message boards, link to this. If there are tons of awesome videos I'll give out more prizes along the lines of first prize.

LETS SEE EM! The Hounds are calling!

No way I am entering since I suck, but I can't wait to see the entries. Savatage is one of my faves and I too think they never got their due.

Matt LaPorte (RIP) did an AMAZING job channeling Criss in the solos when he played with JoP... no diss to Caff, who also did a real good Criss

yeah, that's what I've heard, I've just never been able to get into JOP for some reason.

And for those who say they suck, just do it. Not all Sava songs are impossible.... For example, Tonight He Grins Again is awesome but pretty easy on guitar

Believe is a pretty easy tune as well. But amazing none the less.

I love the third place prizes!

Cool, not familiar with the tune Lev, but nice chops and tone(for a cam mic).

                              Excellent work so far guys!

I'm keeping quiet on where the pot and spring come from, going to need more entries, as of now I'm keeping them!
