  • A few more tracks for my Metal CD

Here's a few more tracks I've been working on lately for my 3rd CD, entitled Colossus, which will be considerably more Metal than my last 2 CDs.

    Drums: BFD2

    Unknown Variable:
    kinda-sorta-inspired by X-Japan (I see what I did there)

    Gear used:
Guitar: WRMG w/ DK2M neck, PATB2 bridge, Amplitube 1 vst
    Bass: JZB2, Amplitube 1 vst
    Drums: BFD2

I've still got a fair amount of work to do on these, but right now I'm just putting them on a review disc so I can listen to them away from the "studio" and think about what I want to do with them.
Definitely having a problem with consistency in the mixes, largely due to using different guitar tones for each track. Trouble is, the tone for one just doesn't work with the others, IMO.
Still need to cook up a solo for Fight, but then I've also got ideas for lyrics, particularly for the title track (posted a while back), so there's that.

Fuck consistency dude! I love to use lots of different tones also. I think if it works for you, then leave like it is.

        Here's another.

        Shadow

I first wrote this one 20 years ago (1993) and I don't think I'll ever truly be "finished" with it. At least not until it gets the full TransSiberian Orchestra treatment

I've dabbled with the orchestral stuff over the years, but can never quite get "the sound" using just my Alesis QSR, no matter how much I layer it. Might have to sell a kidney for the East/West vst

This take was recorded last year, and I redid the drums last night, trying to correct a minor nagging issue I've had with it. I don't even recall which guitar and bass I used on it.

The East/West worth every penny. I totally recommend it.
Now, about the track, your lead guitar sounds a little thin and sometimes out of tune to my ears.
I like the Ride the lightning vibe!
Also, I think the drums are too loud and the guitar is too low on the mix.
          Just trying to help.
          Keep it up.

The out-of-tune thing could be the harmonizer/pitch thing (it was either the SPX90 or IPS33 - can't recall). Definitely sounds thin, but that's more due to my desire for a string arrangement on it

Drums are definitely an issue, but I tried to just lower the overall drum track volume and it just didn't have the same "feel", especially on the slower part. The cymbals are definitely overpowered. Need to bring those down.

Mostly I'm having trouble getting "good" tones on each track, and then having them mix well.
