My band Biomimic recently released our first EP titled Exogenous Embryonic Empire. I recorded/produced/mixed/mastered the effort with my bandmates. We are a sci-fi progressive metal band based out of Chicago.
On the album are a Fusion Professional with a X2N in the bridge, hotrails in the neck and a Jackson US Rhoads with an X2N in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck. I ran both guitars through an Engl Savage 120 through a Splawn Cabinet with V30s.
The other guitarist used a Ibanez Destroyer with Duncan Distortion and an Ibanez RS Prestige - not sure of the pickups in that one. He ran both guitars through a Peavey XXX through a really shitty Marshall cabinet. Halfway through we realized how shitty the cab sounded and switched to the Splawn.
The Savage and the XXX had very different tonal characteristics which I think worked out in some ways.
