• Morning Star (at least, ufff!)

Ok crowd!

We finally managed to get it done. No punchin' in and out recording here. It's all in one take.

Julio is panned a litle to the right and i'm panned a little to the left.

He used his DX2 and I used my RR1.

Shoot me some comments please.

I am very interested in the way you recorded the guitars. Please tell. They sound very good.
Guit1 gets a bit of the Dave Murray "O" sound. You both are very technically proficient. You are MacAlpine/Vinnie Moore fans. I am jealous. You should be playing for money. Outstanding.

Very nice! You guys play well together. That's it for me though.... not enough of an expert to offer constructive criticism. Don't think you'll get much criticism though. Take care!
My future band shall be known as "One Samich Short Of A Picnic"!

@ justin j wakely: Thanks!!!

@ mhalsey: I'm glad you like it dude, thanks for taking the time to listen to our work.

@ Cybersavior: Thanks for the compliments!

Recording was like this:

Software Sequencer: Steinberg's Cubase SX 2.02.

Machine:

Pentium IV @ 2.4 GHZ
512 MHZ Kingston HyperX DDR 400 ram
Asus P4C800 DEluxe Motherboard.
Windows XP SP2 OS
Sata HDD 7200 RPM for the software
SCSI (80 MBs/sec) HHD 7200 RPM for Audio data.
M-Audio OmniStudio66 Through Tannoy Reveal speakers.

I transcribed the drums into a midi file and the edit velocity values by hand to make it more acurate and move some of the stuff a little earlier or put it a little after the main beat, so it was mor human like.
I used Steinberg's Groove Agent to get the sound from the transcribed midi file using the Hard Rock kit but swaping the kick and the snare for the 80's kit. Ambience control was set to 75 % and limiter to 10% in the general console. I then added ambience to the Snare to about 60% in the specific snare control.

Julio transcribed the bass. I then edited velocities and used Steinberg's Hypersonic Pick Bass 1 preset.

Guitars used:

Rodrigo: Jackson RR1 through OmniStudio Preamp 1 to Amplitube plugin. 1.7K boosted by track eq. Panned L36.

Julio: Jackson DX2 through OmniStudio Preamp 2 to Amplitube plugin. 2k boosted and 20 k atenuated by track eq. Panned R36.

TC Works Native EQ applied to the whole mix to cut off a little of the 20 hz freqs and boost the 1k freq.

Waves L2 Maximizer applied to the whole mix. None dither, normal shaping. -6 threshold, -0.3 ceiling, 1.0 release ARC.

Apogee UV22HR dithering applied.

And that's it. Hope you find it helpful.

I usually listen only once to stuff posted on forums and delete it after that, but this is the first thing that I intend to keep. really impressive work gents... really great.

ahhhhhh cool song!
I like the personal touch you gave it.
Your guitarsound is very matching.
Only one little thingy: Vinnie plays it a little more depressed. You understand? His bends en timing is very melancholic.

But who cares: you've got yer own style (H)

Keep it up!

excellent musicmanship!

as far as the recording is concerned, I found the guitars (both in rythm parts and solos) to be too vocal, with too many mids and lows...but maybe that's what you aimed for, or am I deafened by an overdose of Judas Priest marshall tone, lately?
