Pete, as always your playing is good. The overall guitar tone was good but lifeless and a tad thin to me. Did you use a pick? If so, try it without one. I would also bump up the gain on the amp and roll the volume down more on the guitar. Thanks for the clip..

I think your playing is awesome. That is a great song to play live with the dynamics of it. I used to use a volume pedal instead of the guitars volume when I played live, although both work fine.

Since you asked for an opinion on the tone here ya go. The tone imho is missing a little depth and substance, maybe its mid range maybe its too much treble, maybe its my speakers, I can't put my finger on it. I noticed that on the Vai clip as well, just a tad harsh sounding to my ears but what do I know

Missing depth and substance is a good way to describe the tone of your otherwise stellar playing. I am thinking it is the level you recorded and the mic. I bet if you ran the Vetta direct it would have sounded different.

Can't seems to be able to hear the dynamics being squeeze out of the vetta. Did you have the compression on? If so, might wanna try turning them off or lesser compression (if there's a switch for it).

And i reckon if you are able to add a little more reverb and a dash of delay, you might be able to get the missing "depth" and "substance" they mentioned.

Or if you are real free, try recording with the mic and amp place in a huge box and sealed it. I saw this on my visit to MI a couple of years back, and tried it at home, and it really gives a lot of "depth" to the tone.(Too much physic theory to explain how it works but if anybody is interested, i'm sure many of guys here can give a good explaination on it)

My two cents
But who would care about my worthless two cents

BTW, the keyboard/Syn are prerecorded or playbacks right?

Thanks for the comments guys I played it pretty dry... and it was all live, I had a real life keyboard guy and drummer going at the same time, all three of us recorded as it happened, no overdubs. The keyboard dude is stuck playing bass too on the keyboard, which kinda sucks... it's like we're a modern version of the doors or something. If we can find a decent bass player, we'll add one... figured the best thing to do is go on and get gigs (we play friday night) and if a bass player comes along, great. If not, then that's fine too. I prefer splitting gig money three ways over four if possible.

I really liked the tone in the verses personally... it's the neck pickup on the Wolfgang. The solo part was the bridge pickup, and it was a little abrasive, which is what I was going for.
