ok, here's the tune im applying the lyrics too.

    http://www.chrisflook.com/Jeffstuff/digz.mp3

Anyhow, Ive learned how to get a semi decent mix using samples and guitar stuff, BUT, im a total vocal n00b, and it shows. I cant get ANYTHING to sound like it belongs in the mix.

I have a full suite of plugins and vst's to play with, so im not limited by processing power.

But im not sure wha tkind of room I should record for this type of material. Im not sure what is the best mic, I currently own an 80's realstic junker that aint too bad, and was a quality unit back in the day.

But yah, any tips on where i should sing, how, mic placement, reverb, compression?!? ETC ETC> I need help, I cant get it to sound like anything of decency!!!!

If you want to get a good mic cheap try to buy a used old Sennheiser MD421. It's great for guitar micing but works also on vocals if you don't have the money for a high-end tube mic. And of course if you want to get quality vocals you need a tube preamp before the soundcards input. Art Tube MP is cheap and can do the job. Don't use any effect when recording except moderate compression. You can always add stuff later. As far as singing try not to hold back. Sing as loud as you can cause you have to come through in the mix.
And if you need attitude try running the vocals through an overdrive plugin.
I'm no expert but these "tips" work for me.
