• D Major Soloing

A friend of mine brought me this backing track today and i started to play around and wanted to show you guys what i came up with. I'm not used to work wuth major scales so it was fun to try.

Guitar: Jackson DXMG with hybrid set of strings 009 - 046
Amp: IK Multimedia Guitar Rig with some eq tweaking in Cubase SX 2.0

Any opinions?

If someone wants the backing track, just ask for it!

Great tone, enjoyable to listen to! Sounds like a very heroic, or like one of those romantic movie scenes where there is rapid cutting/editing showing the two young lovers swinging each other around in their arms and laughing and having a good time.

Funny how music really conjures up wicked images, doesn't it?

Sure, post the backing track... should be interesting.

Very nice

Why does it skip at 0:17?

And yeah, I'd like a copy of that backing track as well

It ain't skipping here Newc.

I'll post the backing track later today, right here.

Thanks for the comments NOTP. I just let my playing go, i never thought about the romantic stuff but it coulkd well suite an image like that i suppose.

Now that i actually hear it, i notice some Randy Rhoads stuff here and there, but it wasn't conscius at all, it just came that way.

Nice kuerbo! Definitely had that "Goodbye To Romance" feel to it. If you've got RR'ish chops coming from ya without trying, good on ya!

Realy good playing there. Some musicians i hear seem to have problems playing over major sounding comps.
I love playing over major chords-static or modal-staying in its relative minor sounds realy bluesy
well done

Re: D Major Soloing

@ mazhar: Thank you!. I work both ways. Sometimes i improvise and then work from that, or i write something first without listening to it to, come up with more special ideas. After i record it, i listen to it a few times and then play the same thing again changing a few things to give it the final touch and record the final version.

@ Mark: Thank you pal. I was surprised to hear that Rhoads thing, coz' when i play i just go for the vibe of the song, and it turned out this major thing sounded pretty "Randyish" at moments.

@ Justin: Thank you. I tried basically not to repeat myself over the course of the track, wich is pretty hard, especially when you're improvising. I like the fact that i used a wide range of notes over the instrument, from F# on the 6th string second fret, to F# bending the 24th fret on the first string.

And as i promised, here's the backing track for you guys to play along.

Wow man, that was awsome. I've really never cared for the sound of the major scales (everytime I was taught it just never sounded right), but I love that soloing ya did there.

Great backing track too, thanks for posting it! I'm trying to play something over it now. Whether I'll record it and post it is a different story though...

@ Irfaan: Thanks. Major scales are very nice, although not used much in a Rock context. Nuno Bettencourt used to do very cool stuff using major pentatonic scales.

@ kit: I'm with you. Major scales are suposed to be the starting point to any kind of music knowledge.

@ NOTP: You should try and post something here. I'd like to hear something from you.

I'm brushing up some Satriani songs, so perhaps I'll post a video soon since I have a lot more free time lately.

kit-it depends on what style of music you play that can dictate how easily you play over a major sounding backing.
most rock stuff i hear is minor and when guitarists i hear on these types of sites go major its sometimes sounds forced and sterile-
heres a take i did over this backing yesterday with my parker-the parker is downtuned a semi if your wondering on the hand postitions and an open note used-
