    http://www.mp3unsigned.com/Showband.asp?id=10001

please tell me what you think.

all these tunes were done using line 6 rifftracker, which has a built in drummer program type thingy, so that is why the drumming is a little repetitive. These are just ideas for songs so PLEASE tell me what you think needs to be done to them to improve them.

more finalized stuff can be found on my bands website:

warhorse is not loading...nice edge to the playing tho on the other tracks.. can tell ya are a big Freidman fan.
you should eventually consider submitting something to Mike Varney.. I think they have the spotlight column back in GP again. Course, you may want to polish it a little more but I think the thing is to display your talent/do your thing and let it shine and that is what they look for in something like that.

I just checked out the Yngwie style clip on the site. It did sound more like Marty though. But WOW. It was amazing playing! Keep up the good work!

          Re: heres some newer stuff

Ok, I listened to Warhorse. My first impressions are, this is cool, in fact it flat out kicks ass with energy and the guitar tone is on. (I was surprised this line 6 product sounded so good) The galloping rhythm, the hooks-all in sync with the theme which is ass kickin & heavy.

This reminds me of the stuff Varney used to put out on albums of unknown metal artists in the late 70's - early 80's called U.S. Metal. Back then Friedman was like 18 and played in Hawaii...this stuff sounds alot like some of the artists he used to feature..guys that are like really young and just are off the cuff very talented unknown players & writers.

With that in mind...when it came to the solo of Warhorse,(and I realize that this was at least partially if not all improvized) the first couple of bars kinda threw me for a loop. I'm going to be a little critical here because this is where I personally (if it were me) would likely consider a change. I hear the first note and I'm hangin waiting for the rest...
and the next couple bars sound like they are in Lydian mode?...which I'm thinkin, "hmm, this is a rather odd note choice" ...it was well executed, just the intro section of this sounded off to the rest of the theme ya know? Once you went rippin out of that I thought the rest of the solo was very well done.

I recall someone, (I think it was EVH) once said "people seem to remember the beginning and the end of your solos the most" I think he was relating it to writing or how you communicate. When you meet someone, you have a first impression of when you meet and a last impression of when you part.

To me, I liken it to the writing of a mini novel of sorts in philosophy..you have the intro, the body, and the end or the climax of the novel and sometimes, that is how I try to approach a solo and even the writing of a song.

If you were like Steven King, you had great themes, a hooking intro, a great story, and sometimes sucky ending. There were so many times I'd get to the end of a Steven King novel and go "that's it?!!, thats the end?" anyways, a little sidetrack rant there.

I'm just trying to be helpful and objective...but even Yngwie used to suggest.."be critical of your playbacks" because essentially what you hear is what others hear when you are beginning to hone a style.

In the grand scheme of things tho.. this stuff kicks ass and
I really like it on the whole. Your playing style is reminiscent of your influences, but it is still you. I'm genuinely impressed (and that ain't easy to do sometimes.)

Interesting that you said Friedman charvelguy because the thing I hear most in your playing Patrick (influence wise) is Jon Schaffer. Thats high praise from me, though on some of your other tracks I hear a more melodic edge that does remind me of Friedman as well.

Warhorse is very good and the solo is definitely not bad, and I didn't have any problems with the opening bars really but I would say this, don't be afraid to use occasional repetition in your solos. People grab on to something if they hear it two or three things and it makes it stand out. You can also structure a solo something like this. Melody lead, solo, melody lead (doubled or changed in some small way), solo, repeat if necessary. Warhorse has a very cool lead thats part of the main melody of the song, use that to your advantage in the solo if you can (as a jumping off point possibly). Maiden did this alot. The solo as is while good I felt tried to go in to many directions at once if that makes sense? I always find it hard to critique solos so forgive me if that makes little sense.

I'm pretty sure I've not heard any Iced Earth altho I've heard of them...so I could not relate. I'm an 80's old schooler.
