Playing around with drum options

I posted this a while back, but last night I went over the drums and tried to redo them to be a bit more interesting (and to take out the Triangle and Tambourines )

Original track was done with a default drum kit in the Alesis SR-16, but for the remix (re-drum) I changed the kit just a tad (namely, changed out the Triangle and Tambourine )

The first one was also done with an Alesis QSR MIDI'd to the SR-16 for their drum sounds blended with each other, but the re-drum was done with an Alesis QS6 as the second drummer, which has different drum tones than the QSR.

I liked the drum tone on the first one better, but I can live with it (for now )

The patterns and fills are all presets, but for the second one I jumped to a different preset for the interlude, then back to the main one.

The more time I spend with the SR-16 the more neat tricks I seem to come up with. Might even resurrect my SR-16 site I had back in 97 (it was the only one, and probably would still be the only one! )

Me likey. I use a Zoom drum machine built into a Zoom recorder. The Alesis seems to do better cymbal work. I like the stereo sound you've got going there.

I had the drums from one panned left and the other panned right at the line mixer, which gives a nice stereo field over panning them on the computer.

As an interesting aside, I burned all my songs to a CD so I could put them on my Xbox360 for custom soundtracks, but the volume level was much too low as compared to the other CDs I had used (Van Halen and such), so I burned another disc but poked around in Nero to see what sort of Normalizing/Gain Boosting options it had, and found a Stereo Expander. While it doesn't work fabulously with all tracks (gives a false slapback sometimes), I do like what it did for another one of my tracks:

The only thing done to this track was the Stereo Expansion.

Can't really hear too much difference on my PC cuz the speakers are so close, but my stereo speakers for my video games are farther apart, and it's a world of difference.
