ehh, Vernon Reid would likely 'jar' me with a much worse effect. I'd have to listen to it again, but really, this solo in Sunday is a good solo if taken in the vein of a rather Freidman vibe. Nothing wrong with being out of the box. Really, some notes are probably nothing more than brief accidentals.

If you must, construct another more traditional approach solo or two.. let the audience or band or both decide.

Well, I for one liked it as is, tseegert. I liked the tension created by your note choices. I have a penchant for doing what you do in my own playing sometimes. My friends respect my playing abilities but, don't always agree with my note choices at times (so did the producer of the CD of the of the last band I was in--he made me alter my held 7ths to 3rds and stuff like that). The real question is do YOU like it? You've mentioned what non musician listeners have thought and I'm reading what JCF'ers have thought... how about you?

PS I hate the fact that myspace disabled the fast forward and rewind so you can't spot listen to parts anymore though!

Oh Myspace did that on their players huh? more time spent on their website I guess. It's 'free', can only go so far with 'free' nowdays.
I 'spose cyberspace is the new frontier for different homesteads.

I agree tho.. leave it as such if you like playing it that way.

Thanks for all the comments guys, after much deliberation, and the quest for ones "own sound", I feel I have to go with what I like in the case of the leads (lead).

Hence I shall continue to blaze new paths into the nether of key and keyless

Thanks again, your opinions really do supply insight on elements that I would have otherwise not taken into consideration.

Remaining true to yourself in the face of adversity is the bottom line of the artists creed.

Petrucci (all time fave), Malmsteen (which I refuse to show blatantly in my playing, I think its been overdone), Lynch (made me want to start playing), Marty (good call, I find it hard to hide his influence sometimes... just such a sweet mix of technique, melody and a dose of oddity to top it off).

Of all of them, JP is like a god to me though... the man isnt human I tell you. I do find myself listening to the older DT stuff more than the new by a large margin, but I can still completely appreciate the new material.

I'm glad to hear you're doing your own thing,I gave it a listen and I like it just fine the way it is. The problem with asking musicians,in particular guitar players ,their opinions is that they mostly they will tell you how they would play it.

It's very refreshing to hear someone play a little more non-traditional and not copy some other guitar player, like so many "shredders" do,Yngwie,EVH,Satch,etc... we already have enough of those as it is.

                    Here's a few quite successful guitar players that have had a similar approach ;

Steve Howe,Robert Fripp,Alex Lifeson,Vernon Reid (one of the best guitar players to walk the earth IMO) ,and Ty Tabor.

All of those guys are monsters and definitely specialize in surprising you with their note choice, phrasing and resolve.

Keep up the good work,I applaud you!

I like it! The lead is a bit wacky... In and out of key but you were aiming for that so that is cool... It does sound somewhat intentional to my ears but maybe that is because I was looking for that since you mentioned it. Good luck in your quest!

tseegert - i'm glad i didn't read anyone's comments first. i thought the solo was cool! the tension created was right on. i would agree that vocals were a bit weak - they were just on the edge of being flat the whole tune.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

******* I agree but that is a GOOD thing imo. I liked the refreshing
difference of the notes chosen. Not just another sweep ad nauseum
solo. Very good is my vote!
