  • Rough self recording- Feedback?

We recorded a couple of demo songs in my band by ourselves a while ago and now we are giving them a mix. I'd like to hear some feedback about the songs and the recordings. Some parts are rough and need to be re-recorded and no vocals are on the versions on my soundclick but the bones of the music is down. We recorded without any multitracking but we did each instrument separately.
Some info on the band. We are called Shardborne and we play melodic metal, were Irish and young, all between 17-19.

Yeah the drummer was horrendously off beat in the first clip, though he was better in the second clip. But for a young and upcoming band that wasn't bad at all.

I would try and get a bit more of a cutting tone, very hard to pick out the parts in some areas.
You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.

We knew the drummer was a bit off on the Shelter track so we got him to do another version which is better but we haven't got guitars for it yet. He's actually a savage good drummer but I think he made mistakes because he's never recorded by himself with a click and he had a hard time nailing the rythm without us to follow on it.
GodOfRhythm is it the guitar tone your referring to? I think we'll try and go for 2 clearer and more varied tones for the next time, we ended up using the same amp for these. We'll try recording again when our drummer is finished his exams.

          Any other opinions?

Keep writing.. keep recording and keep practicing. Not bad for a 1st attempt. Try to find your own sound.
I could critique it but I won't. Let me just say.. keep working at it. The songs are basic and the recording is very basic. Another thing to remember is that 17-19 isn't that young in the melodic metal business. There are many pro acts that are that age. Take your crap serious. With todays technology.. you can get pro recording and pro mixes for not alot of cash and with not alot of gear.

We have some other songs that are more complex and that I prefer but we decided to have a go at recording some of the more straight forward ones as it would be less hassle.
Thanks for some of the critque, any helpful advice for better results? We recorded this as a bit of an experiment to see what we could get done with the stuff we already had. We'll be looking into more equipment towards the end of summer once we've earned some money, a better mixer and a good audio interface will help us a good deal.

I think some good microphones and some mixing software would help a lot. Also, the band doesn't sound very tight.

I agree with jgcable. Just keep working at it and the songwriting will sort itself out.
