Inexpensive Condenser Mics

I need one pretty badly, but I don't have a ton of cash. Is anyone using the MXL large diaphram mics? If so how are they with acoustic guitars? And how are they with vocals?

There several mods that you can do to the MXLs that make them sound much better. If you have any experience in electronics/soldering, that would be a great choice.

I've heard them before the mods... and the stock versions are simply... ok. With mods, cheap mics can come very close to high end vibe.
