if the ID3 tags are turned on and blank in Winamp, it'll show blank or "unknown" or "untitled". If they are turned off, it will show the name of the file. I found this out the other day when I was playing mp3s out of my JCF folder. I was wondering why some of them were coming up "unknown" since I rename all of them as I download them so I know who recorded what.
So you can either update the tag with the relevant info, or turn them off so Winamp will post the name of the mp3 instead.
I think the artist should include their name in the filename as well as the tag.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who downloads more than one song at a time using a download manager,
so when I come back I have tons of mp3's with no artist names. If I was an artist putting out mp3's, I'd want to make damn sure that the downloader knows my name at least! Doesn't this make sense?
I'm more likely to delete mp3's with no names, cuz it's just too time consuming to figure out who is who after listening.
Please?
Sigh.
I made a rock n roll sin when I tried giving in to make money, had to turn down low.
It'd be great if all MP3 codec save dialogs threw the ID3 window open as you saved the file - that'd make it easier to remember to do that

The most human thing we can do is comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
I'll save a bunch of files at the same time too, but not with a download manager. It slows down my broadband connection. But I rename any files with the artist's name or JCF nick when the "Save As.." dialogue box opens, so it doesn't really pose a problem for me.
