  • General Recording Question

    I have an Akai DSP16.

Wondering if I can plug the thing directly into my computer and record.

Anybody have one of these things?

    You mean this? http://img.audiofanzine.com/img/prod.../1/0/10805.jpg

Answer: NO. This thing records all by itself. You plug your preamp into it and it records from what I understand. I never messed around with units like that so I'm only about 75% sure that's right.

Yeah one of those things. No pre-amp needed though.

I had a DPS12. The only PC interface you can use with it is to get the CDRom add-in that dumps all the tracks to a disc, then put that in a PC. At least that's what I recall from the manual.

Thought it was pretty stupid, myself: why they did not include a standardized PC interface is beyond me.

It was a nice machine, though. You cuold do all kinds of cool stuff with it and it worked better than cassette-based recorders. While not billed as being portable, I carried mine to rehearsals.

OK I think what I will do is burn CD's with my external burner then copy them onto my computer.

I think the DSP16's came out prior to computers having the capabilities to interface with other hardware via USB ports.

            Thanks
