Probably not your speed, at least for most of you guys, but this is a sample of the modal stuff I've been messin' with lately. Kinda jazzy. Definitely too "happy". Kinda bluesy.

It's based on G major, with scales derived mostly from the modes.

Also, this is just a one-shot solo. No cuts. No pastes. No nothin' but layin' down some chords over a stock jazz drum track and messin' around.

    HAPJAZZARD

    Enjoy!

That is so cool! In my opinion I also think that is the best mp3 that you posted that I have heard. Great job. What guitar did you use for it...whenever I hear that kind of stuff I always think of 335's. If you like that type of blusy jazzy clean stuff check out Larry Carlton...Sleepwalk lp. They guy does some amazin stuff on that record.

        Wow, thank you Shawn!

I used my Strat on that one. That guitar is just perfect for that bold, yet twangy, and thick jazzy feel. Not only that, but the Strat just FEELS like that kind of guitar. You know how it is, certain guitars give you a certain vibe. They bring out a certain persona of playing style. Same with amps. My favorite combination lately has been my Strat through a Crate 60D acoustic amp my friend loaned me. The combination has a wonderful jazz-tone to it.

DM, not sure about a permanent shift in direction, but it's definitely a nice tangent to be taking. I've been learning a lot about different concepts and techniques. String-skipping and odd jazz-based scales, for example. It's definitely challenging and fun!

Woo hoo ARCH ENEMY tonight!!!! (and Slayer and Skinlab)
