  • Some new rock n roll for ya's!!

I wrote a new song!! Check it out. This song is still a work in progress like everything I write. But I think this one is the start of something really good for me. I've been playing with Cubase alot and the more I get in tune with the program the better my songs will be.
    At least that's my theory!

    Thanks for listening!

I can hear it's got a lot of potential. The vocals are good, as are the instruments, but the sound is really, really pretty poor. Maybe it's just my speakers, but it sounds very thin.

      Thanks!!
Yeah, the guitar was pretty much plugged straight in which gives it a pretty crappy sound. I'm working on micing the amps at the moment so I can re-record it. Plus I haven't EQ'd anything yet.
I pretty much don't know what I'm doing when it comes to properly recording a track. I'm learning though.
      Any pointers would be nice!

      Thanks for listening!

What about getting a Line 6 Toneport?

I remember thinking this last night, and it strikes me again - this song, including the vocals, remind me a lot of Gilby Clarke's stuff. A guy who I have a lot of time for. If you haven't listened to him (he's ex G N' R) you should check out "Pawnshop Guitars".
Ah, here - "Cure Me or Kill Me" with Slash on it. Cracking tune.

Yeah, I remember Gilby from Rockstar. That was a fun show. I really don't remember him in GnR though. I guess he must have been on the last album.

I listened to the song a few hundred times yesterday......and I did notice that it sounded way thin compared to a song I did last month.

Do you think the guitar is thin, I mean as far as tone, or the whole song in general is flat? Because I know the guitar tone is thin because of the method I used for recording, but I can fix the flatness of the track.

As far as the tone port goes, I'm not too sure I need that yet, I'm thinking that just using my amps simulator out or good mics will take care of the "thin" guitar.

I must say that I am very surprised that you liked my vocals, since I think I can't sing a lick!! I thank you for that!!

You know, after reviewing the Toneport, I think your on to something! LOL. I'd love to get the expensive version, but I think I'll get the middle version since it's so cheap. It is well worth the try if it can really make a difference with bass, guitar, and vocals like it says it can.

            Thanks for that!

Get the cheapest one. I'm sure it'll be ideal for what you want and as far as I know it uses the same software as the higher end models. Toneport GX. I have one myself and they're great.

I thought the whole song sounded kinda thin, like it lacked bass and some mids. I'm sure it's just a result of your recording setup - if you get a Toneport GX you'll notice a difference.

I thought your vocals were fine, if unspectacular. Some people have a good range, but sound like crap - like most of the power metal singers. Whereas some guys have a poor range and technically aren't great - like Bon Scott or, hey, Gilby Clarke! - but they fit the music well. I thought your vocals fitted the music.

Do you have a link to any of your music? I'd love to hear some!

By the way, if you go to this link www.myspace.com/iamthewadester you will find a better version unmodified by myspace. So the bitrate is exactly the way I recorded it.

Check it out if you want.

If you want to use a microphone to mic your amp instead of, or as well as using the built in modelling, I would recommend the Toneport UX2. The UX1 has the mic input but not phantom power for microphones that require it.

As far as the modelling I believe all the toneport devices have identical modelling features and run the same plug-ins.

Cool, Thanks for that. I'm gonna go check them all out tomorrow. That is if Guitar Center has them in stock in my area.

Now that you mentioned micing and modeling at the same time, that's something I'm definitly going to try!

Well IMHO the drums sound like you are hitting a cardboard box. Everything seems down the middle. Try panning things a little. The VOX sound good but could use some processing and EQ.

Get a 57 and the waves platinum bundle of plug ins and you'll be set.

Your absolutly right! I went through the song last night a few more hundred times and it needs alot of mixing. I'm gonna work on it this weekend and I'll post another version for all of you to hear. Hopefully I'll do something right this time! LOL

Anyone listen to the remastered version yet?

Just wondering. I know it's not the greatest song in the world, but your opinions on the recording is greatly appreciated.
