• More new stuff

Here's another 3 minute instrumental bit, comments/criticism welcome. I was hoping it would take unexpected twists and turns, but still sound cohesive.
Looking especially for comments on the writing: did it fit together well, what parts did you like/not like, what kind of feel does it have or is that lacking, any other comments along those lines would be appreciated.

I really like the Gilmourish lead starting at about 1:30.

pretty nice...since you asked for it..I could have lived without the double stops / layered guitars from the point the harmony stops to the first lead break...just emphasize the riff or harmonize that...that 30 seconds or so is just a bit busy...everything else is pretty cool tough.

Re: More new stuff

Thanks eh
Ya need other peoples opinions to get anywhere with writing I find. By double stops you mean the clean funky kinda chords over that bluesy riff? I've heard the term double stop before but never knew what it meant.
One day I hope to write a truly great song. Not one of these crapass instrumentals, they are good for nothing, but a classic song that would be remembered. The instrumentals seem good practice for now in some ways, since you can really roam around through different textures etc and don't have to worry about verse chorus verse blah blah. Ah well, I try. I suppose not being able to sing or write lyrics could be an obstacle for me down the road

Re: More new stuff

Great sounding piece!

The lead tone sounds a tad bit hollow as it comes in at 34 sec mark. What were you using? it kinda clashes with the rest of the lead tones..

My fav is the 1:40 mark where you rip into a sweet, sweet run! mmm mmm mmm!!!

nice transition at the 2:24 as well!!

(are you doing quick vol swells at the outro? nice....)
You are very talented.

Keep up the good work!

BTW:
What are you using to record? and are you going line in or thru a mic?... As you heard from my little piece I could sure use some recording tips...

Re: More new stuff

thanks vwall it was a POD. If the lead track was off around :34 I'm not sure what it was. I think that was a Mk II boogie model or something and the rest were something else, maybe thats why. Not sure which part you mean for the volume swells, but I didn't do any so it is something else. For guitars it was a Soloist and a PRS mostly, and the software is Guitartrax Pro. POD is very good for clean stuff I find. So so for gain but it's too easy to use to complain about it.

Re: More new stuff

the very end of the song almost sounbded like really fast vol swellling but it must have been something else.. But it kinda sounded like that.

What recording software are you using?

As always, very interesting listening Mark. I like how you're not afraid to try different styles and textures. Nice job.....

V-Wall, I believe he uses guitar trax pro and fruity loops drums.

Drums are a little too disco for my tastes, but the rest has a nice mood.

Re: More new stuff

that was great, Mark! I agree with Shawn about the funky chordal section. I like the idea, but it didn't really fit. Maybe it's just too far forward in the mix. Or mebbe if it was "choppier", y'know, more "chucka chucka". And that second chord sounded a "off", not out of tune but just out of key.

But otherwise, I loved it. I like all the different guitars going off in different directions from 1:00. The harmony sections sound great. I love it when things get clean around 2:22 and your lead tone gets more up in your face. The additional fills around the main guitar are a sweeeet touch too.

And the outro rocks! I love the repeating figure into the fade out. That says classic track to me. Get yourself with a good lyricist SOON!
