But if Shred is so easy, why are so many people chasing that goal, with so few actually reaching it? I'm not talking about players who don't shred because that's not their thing and therefore spend their time working on songs (which of course is fine), but guitarists who are totally into it, dedicate themselves to it, but still never get to tear it up like their heroes.
Not everyone who lifts a weight will end up looking like Arnie, not everyone who learns to bounce a ball can handle the rock like Jason Kidd. Being able to play your instrument with a high level of technical facility is a laudable aim. The hope is that the true musician will utilise all of that technique with the taste and restraint to serve the song.
