    it was just a little SYN

    moment of orig. SYN
    SUP ? [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img]
    i was working on this over the weekend and thought I'd throw it out with the sharks and see if it could swim [img]graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] i think it needs to get a few more tweaks before i call it good though.
    before the crows pick at my flesh,SYN is my band I'm rebuilding,the word is kind of a running theme
    comments, critiques,sugg.'s ?

      thats a really killer comp. to me man, cause WOW, i don't think anyone has ever mentioned YNGWIE and my humble twangin in the same sentence before [img]graemlins/scratchhead.gif[/img] really, any part in particular?

        Although, the drums get kind of distracting.

          great stuff man. i'd like to hear it with a whole band, it would be powerful. the lead guitars sounded like they could be up about 1 or 2 decibels, but the playing was great: kinda Yingyang Maladjusted like, I'd agree with the other Mark on that one. The tone was good too.

            Sounds EXCELLENT man.

            You're too humble!

            The only criticism I have is the constant beat on the drums, and IMO the rythm parts need a lot more variation to make it interesting.

            I like the progression it sounds great!

            What about a keychange somewhere and acrazy solo on top of that (note: not saying there's no keychange) as a climax instead of the last minute or so just doing the Phrygian thing? It'd add more dimension and dynamics to the piece IMO.

            Just some suggestions! Still a work in progress as you mentioned but it's EXCELLENT so far IMO.

              YA,I was thinking that the twin guitar lines were a little far back in the mix.i think i need to split them further apart to, the more i listen to it the harder it is to tell that there are taps on one side and sweeps on the other.I'll have to fix that.

              <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I hear that [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] I haven't wrote the REAL drums yet,thats one of the tweaks i still have to do.like i was just playing around with this for later. i have been really working my ass off on another tune that the drums have taken me 5 weeks to write and record,and that has taken up most of my drum machine's memory except 9 or 10 pattern slots that i used for this little tune. i needed the break, but when i get the other tune squared away and all the tracks to a master CD then I'll start writing drums for this one [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

                Great music! I see some people hearing Yngwie in there... Well, I hear some Marty Friedman in there. I'm talking about the harmonies, they just remind me of Marty's first solo CD ('Kiss of the Dragon', was it?). I may be deaf, but that's what I hear in there. In a positive way, of course. Well, to make a long story short, I love it!!! [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]

                    "I'm gonna do this like Marty... thing" but years ago when i was heavily into the Cacophony stuff, i noticed they would play off one another by one doing taps and the other doing arpeggios, and thought that that was the coolest shit.when i was working this up,the first section just had the arpeggios and i didn't want to just repeat that the second time,then i remembered [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img] so i did 5 string sweeps with G1 and tapped the triads with G2. that did the trick, but the second time it came around needed something now,so i did the 5 string sweeps with G1 and did 3 string sweeps with G2 and that built a nice tension between the ascending and descending 3rd's and 5th's

                      Great tune! The style is definitely in the Becker/ Friedman league! Very well-structured and organized. [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img]

                      And my tiny little 2 cents...this track sounds alot like a prelude to the "real thing", you know what I mean. When I'm listening to the main melody, I'm eagerly waiting for the motif to develop, but it seems that this track is just a prototype.

                        I definetly agree with Miffy, it sounds like a teaser before something bigger. I hope to hear some more in the future. Keep on rocking!

                          it hasn't quite evolved into the piece i hear in my head yet but like i said i just kinda did it over last weekend for a break from another tune I'm pretty deep into right now.

                          1999 KE-2 with an EMG-81
                          1990 bolted steel Namm Warrior(that i got from Brett [img]graemlins/headbang.gif[/img] )with an EMG-89 into

                          2-Digitech 2120's
                          one running a solid state dist. one running a tube dist. but both for one guitar.

                          2-Crate SPA-200 pwr amp's

                          Into 4 4/12 cabs(2-behringer bg412s ultrastacks 1-Carvin 1-Randall)
                          all cabs are mic. and also rec. direct.

                          1 Hartke 5 string bass...(direct and buried in the mix)

                          1- BOSS DR5 drum machine

                          all into a Roland VM-3100pro dig. mixer into Emagic Logic software,via Roland R-BUS cable & RPC-1 card.(i think I'm gonna switch to SONAR though cause Emagic Logic has moved to an all MAC platform and will no longer be upgrading for PC.,,and Sonar just has less issues and quarks)
