  • Some new solo stuff I was working on tonight

I was working on some solos for some of our tunes tonight, so I thougt I'd post one up. This particular backing track was put together by passing the original rhythm guitar part via Email (recorded on my J-Station to a click track) to my drummer, who used it to work on his parts then sent it back. I threw it into Cubase, did a quick miking job to the cab and went to work. The solo was recorded with a homemade Warmoth into my Roadster (3rd channel orange) through a Mesa 4x12 w/V30's, so it does kinda sound too "live" compared to the backing. I added a bit of reverb to try and even it out a bit, but that's it. Its a really rough scratch thing since we're still hashing out the details of the tune, so the tone and playing isn't perfect. We are gonna record some stuff for real over the next couple of weeks so I'll post the finished stuff later. It should be the top one on the player called Nowhere_solo.

Oh... since our bass player bailed on us, does anyone know a bass player and/or singer in the Detroit area... I'm desperate!

Not bad, i like the framework of the solo, clean up the build/phrasing and bring it home. Dig the riff, wanted it to continue.
    Nice Job

Thanks! Yeah, there are some cringe worthy bends and stuff in there. I just made it up tonight and wanted to get it recorded so I wouldn't forget it . I'm still on the fence as to how it should end too.

Yeah a little freshening up and it will sound good. Bye the way your playing on no love will linger is great, nice loose feel and all the tasty slurs, I like alot, good job.

Thanks for the reply. Honestly, I should take those last three songs off there. "In my Hands" is my nephew's band, and the last two are OLD. Neither of them turned into what I was hoping for, and the versions on Soundclick are from when we were still just putting them together. Hell, I don't even play with those guys anymore . I do appreciate your comments though. I always liked the main riff in Linger.

I did come up with a solo for Linger later on though... I should see if I still have it recorded somewhere. I remember being pretty happy with it.

Yeah it's refreshing to hear something that isn't beating me over the fucking head all the time, if you put the solo in linger I would be interested in hearing it. That was the biggest let down, no solo. As cool as the riff was I kept waiting for this tasteful cool as hell solo, never came. I felt like I was in a circle jerk where nobody got off lol.

I dig it all except the beginning of the phrase at :33...harmomnize the the couple notes from the :25-:38 mark would be a cool touch too.

Killler track tho and good groove and harmony

This is the kind of stuff I was looking for... What exactly don't you like about that bend there? I figured that bend up to C# was a good "guitar face" move for live purposes.

Bill... yeah, I was trying to get a little "shred" thing going on there in a few spots. I've got to work on my chops, because my catalogue of "fast" stuff is very limited and repetitive. Maybe I need to pick up/DL that Loomis CD for inspiration.

Steve, the fast stuff actually conveyed pretty well..I thought. Dude, I may have inspired Jeff Loomis. Track#6 @ 2:06 IS my "Father Felon" riff..I almost fuggin' fainted!

Thanks! I need to come up with something for it that is phrased better though.

Steveo...its just my tastes I suppose. That bend seems kinda out of place to me and more suited to blues based kinda of stuff. One of my pet peeves is people ripping out old cliche'd bona-fide chuck berry licks over metal
