Don't wait too long to find a band - I know you want to make it the right one for you, but experience in a band is invaluable, and also great fun, even if you're playing stuff you don't really like yourself.

You don't have to do all thrash...you could call it that, but you could put plenty of your own influence in it. And if you find musicians that are good enough, the genre won't matter.

And is the band you're talking about Warbringer?

Yeah, you make a good point, it's hard finding musicians that have the same drive and vision, and yeah, that is the band.

It's also hard because I'm still not sure what genre I want to play, I really do love Fusion/Jazz stuff a lot and I would love to learn and play that style, but I'm a metal head at heart.

                get into some Greg Howe.
he's a great rock/Fusion player that you can learn a lot of very cool stuff tht you can still use in metal soloing.

Love me' some Greg Howe. I prefer his older stuff but his new fusion stuff is mind blowing as well. He's truely awesome.

You could do what Skolnick did...metal band and jazz project. Hell, you could have a metal band as your main project, but do other stuff too, jazz blues classical whatever I'm sure you have the talent for it all. Just do whatever makes you happy and lets you play the shit out of those guitars.

Why don't you just mix elements of all the stuff you like into 1 genre

I've listened to most of your clips, but this is the first time I've responded...

You're obviously very well established technically. Your playing is very clean and you have a well developed vibrato too, which is great and very important. I don't think that there is anything anyone can tell you in regards to your playing. From your reponses here and in other threads, you have a very mature outlook as to what you need to do in your mind to improve, and the drive to get there.

As for finding a band, it is going to be tough at your age to find talented individuals that also have the same drive as you. I'm guessing you're in your mid teens? My advice to you is to find guys to play with that have the same taste in music and aren't too bad skill wise. Don't go with just anybody, but you HAVE to get out and play... get some live experience as it is invaluable. You say that you are holding out on playing with anybody because you feel you're ahead of most of your peers. From what I've seen, you're probably right. On the other hand, you could be overlooked by established guys because you don't have the necessary live experience. I'm sure you've heard that Loomis was considered for the Megadeth gig but was turned down due to the fact he didn't have the experience... Get out there and play with somebody!!!

Thanks for the response..Yeah, after a lot of encouragement from here, I'm looking more seriously about starting a band. My writing needs to improve and I figure being in a band will definitely help that, I want to be able to be put in any situation and be able to do a job.

What I bolded is what I'm directly quoting though. That is 100% the opposite of what I'm saying. In no way shape or form am I saying I'm better then anyone, what I'm saying is I don't necessarily think I can get in a band because I don't really think I'm good enough. I want to be in a band with a great guitarist so I can learn lots and I don't think i'm up to par with them.

A few people (in this or the other threads) just said play the music you want, and it never really dawned on me that I could very well incorperate all the styles I like into one. I'm going to give that a try. I can just imagine the Wanted ad now : " Looking to start a Melodic-Progressive-Groove-Shred-Metal band with Jazz and Classical influences!"

But thank you for the response, all of you!
