  • Defn. One of the Best Inst. Vids I've seen

    Hi Guys,

    It's probably been posted before, but never hurts to revisit material like this.

    Marty Friedman's "Melodic Control" instructional video.

    Part 1 is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c4V4UUCLGw

    You can easily find links to the other parts.

    I watched the whole thing this morning... and man... wow... An instructional video that doesn't throw info at you, but instead actually teaches how to develop the aspects of musicianship that most vids don't even go into.

    And Marty's note choice and phrasing = -> -> ->

    Check it out.

    - Leo.

    Thanks for posting that. Great stuff. I watched the first three parts. I'll catch the rest of it tomorrow. Very thought-provoking.

        Who's Marty Freedman?

        I have all of his instructionals on my comp. Some of his early Hawaii demo's (one of them his playing is absolutely terrible and it's almost nice to hear that he sucked at one point!)

          I saw it many years ago and it was pretty cool, funny I enjoy those videos mostly because of the performances and not for lessons. Playing over the chords is a very good point though, I've always done it subconsciously, didn't noticed it at first until I heard some recordings when I jammed with a band. Another thing I do is change the rhythm/tempo/length of the notes based on how the rhythm section is playing. That's another way to spice the playing up. But when I listen to bebop dudes like The Bird or Charlie Christian then I'm thinking... I really suck at playing over chords
