Hope it's OK for me to plug this here: A friend of mine wrote these iPhone apps for learning scales & modes. The quiz game is really cool actually, and it's free. I personally find them very useful.

Awesome. I am all over this. I was actually looking for something that would let me drill on the fretboard while moving through scales & modes, giving feedback when I hit the wrong note, but this gets me part of the way there.
