not that it applies to the original topic of the thread, but Uli is spot on when saying it's important to change picking styles to accommodate the song, and i know many people trying to play in multiple styles that make the mistake of picking the same way ALL the time. Just so much as you'd change your effects/EQ/guitar (if you're so fortunate to have the luxury ), you'll want to change picking styles. And of course this travels across the board of genres. When playing a bunch of Metallica (a nod to spivonius ) it's imperative to downpick with solid attack, rather than a soft alternate picking technique. Just as well, you can't play in the style of marty friedman with a tensed up hand and your pick parallel to the strings. you might even have to curl your hand up like you're trying to itch your own wrist :think:
