In, 1978, I had a bad acid trip and woke up in the Emergency Room. It was at this time I was visited by the spirit of Eddie Van Halen. I never played guitar before but my dad had an Sears acoustic. I had a dream that I could play a song called "Spanish Fly" . When I got home I tuned it and played that song fo the astonishment of friends and family. Word got around quick, and in 1979. I received a phone call from Ted Templeberg, and he flew me to a studio room in his basement, and gave me LSD. I took that Sears guitar and started playing. He liked what he heard and put it on Van Halen's 2nd record. I got to meet Edward Van Der Sloot (His real name) and showed him how to play it.
These are facts!"Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
Donnie Swanstrom 01/25/06..miss ya!
"Well, your friend would have Bell's Palsy, which is a facial paralysis, not "Balls Pelsy" like we're joking about here." Toejam's attempt at sensitivity.

+15 Bridge Troll? Lets see, 6 years, that would be 2005. I was just starting to turn the corner to being a fucking bad ass rhythm guitarist and spent hours in my bedroom in front of a DAW recording every bad ass riff I could come up with. I still have a lot of those recordings. They dont seem so bad ass anymore, but then neither does the riff I went gaga over yesterday either. Such is life. That said, the shit I come up with now is 10x the quality and technicality it was then, most days anyhow. Then I go watch a youtube video for a gear demo and the guy plays this bad ass riff, and Im left to wonder how come I didnt think of that( and why I cant), then I feel like a worthless player. Fuck it, it seems Im doing nothing, Im just along for the ride. Its like the guitar and the talent its self decide when progress and bad-ass-ness rear their heads, I obviously have no control over it. Playing the guitar is an entity all on its own, it just borrows your hands. All practice is, is learning how to let the entity control your body. You can give it suggestions, but ultimately, its up to the entity what gets played and how. I have the feeling these entities are like any other, some are a little brighter than others, seems mine rides the short bus most of the time. Seriously though, playing the guitar really seems to have a life of its own. I get from point A to point B, thats all that mattersHTTP 404 - Signature Not Found

Thats all I ever wanted to do was shred. So thats what I did. I was learning eddie in my first few years note for note....then malmsteen, then vai....I mean I really do think it depends what you listen to. I think it can impact the level at which you play at....you need to practice like HELL! with much respect, how good do you really think your going to get (technical) playing gipsy or reggae or punk?
After 6 years of shreding. I could shred. But as I said it was my GOAL.
As I got older I didn't want to "shred" all the time I just wanted to have it in my pocket....to use when I wanted to...
I don't think you need to beat yourself up over it. I think you need to think about how and what you really want to be able to play......and PLAY IT ALOT!-Now....shut up n play yer guitar

My level skyrocketed when I stopped focusing on the NPS and the meedley meedley meedley.
My technique level went up when I stopped thinking about it.
My overall level increased when I increased my drinking at shows. I think there is a corolation between drinking and playing great guitar.
Tequila seems to be the best technique aid so far.
