The Neopolitan Chord: A major chord built off of the flatted second degree of a major or minor scale. For example, in C major, you have the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. The neopolitan chord would be D-flat major. Note that this chord was usually used in the first inversion by classical composers.
