I've been using black Dunlap Tortex Jazz III 1.14 for a while now and I'm really happy with them.

Carbon Fiber Max Grip Jazz III is the perfect pick.

Been using the Ultex Jazz III 2.0mm's, love them. They've got a Petrucci signature version coming out which, while I don't dig on DT, looks like an improvement. Can't find it in stock anywhere though, so I'll wait.

I have tried the Jazz III but I can't grip them, my fingers sweat too much and they slip.

I have always used Totex since they are the ONLY pick that doesn't slip for me. I'd like to try a Jazz in a Totex material

I think I'm going to try the carbon fiber Jazz III. The built in grip looks like it might be an improvement on an already great pick.

The JD Jazztone 205s are also some pretty nice picks. They're about the same size as the Jazz IIIs, only a little narrower and a little thicker (around 2.0mm, I'd guess). They glide through the strings.

Now ONLY if they'd make an even THICKER Jazz III with Max-Grip or do the Max-Grip thing on the Jazztone...

Hi, I stumbled onto this forum looking for anyone else using the Jackson Sick Skull 451 picks. They're roughly Jazz III size but the shape is the standard Fender 351. I find them better to hold and more consistent since it doesn't have the very sharp point that wears out instantly.

In any event, I've come to the conclusion that the "Jazz" picks are good because of their finer point and their small size makes you choke up on the grip closer to the point for greater control. Neither of these are exclusive to Jazz picks however since you can sharpen a regular pick's point (file, sandpaper, or the old carpet scrape trick) and grip it the same distance from the point.

For this reason, Jazz picks are an indulgence since they usually cost twice as much and can't be resharpened more than once or twice before they get too small to hold. I've got 100+ of various Jazz picks to use up but I've been branching out with sharpened and bevelled 1.5mm Dunlop Gator Grips, D'Andrea 351 Pro-Plecs, etc. The extra thickness provides a nice deep tone that I can't get with Jazz picks.

Loyal to the cult here, Blacks and Ultex ones. Always keep one in my wallet. Tried black ice and Dava and are good but not stiff enough. Like they need viagra - not cool!
                        I like EL34s.

Yeah, I tried the Dava and Black Ice ones myself and agree completely. I just can't do floppy picks anymore. I had to change my picking technique for strumming, but I'm much happier knowing that I have that degree of control for fast runs.

Definitely makes your playing much more precise and accurate once you're used to them. Regular picks feel like dinner plates to me LOL

My former guitar instructor turned me onto the Ultex Jazz III's. He let me try one of his (he can do some wicked fast, intricate picking) and I thought they sucked. But he left it with me and after a while I picked it up and started playing more and more with it. Soon, I couldn't use my old picks (Gravepickers skull-shaped picks- how fuckin' juvenile of me) and was buying 24 packs of the Ultexs. about a month before I stopped taking lessons, I gave my teacher a fistful of them. Pretty good return on his initial investment.
