Jazz III picks worth the effort?

Lately, I've been feeling "uncorfortable" with all the picks I used to like. It's kinda weird.

I had a few of those Jazz III somewhere in a bin... I know these are quite popular but they also feel weird but I seem more precise :think: when using them, may be not...

I don't know!!! Need some guidance from my fellow JCFers here. Are the Jazz III worth getting used to???

May be should I sell all those guitars and start playing golf?

I can't go back to regular picks after playing on Jazz III's for a few years (actually I get the Eric Johnson Jazz III's which are a bit grippier).

I like to experiment with picks. Lately I've been taken with the Dava Grip Tips. I like how you can modify the feel based on where you grasp them.

Yeah, I use small jazz pointies too. I can go back to a regular pick as I found out a couple of weeks ago, but it was reeeeally awkward at first.

I've liked the Jazz III for a while myself, but I've recently (a couple of months now) went back to using regular-sized picks because I just couldn't find a way to keep my fingers out of the way of the strings - ironic since I was looking for a smaller pick at the time I switched to them.

They're nice, I sometimes use one from time to time still just to fiddle around. Went back to Tortex's and I've been experimenting a lot with Ultex's. I really want to try the T3 (mix of Tortex and Jazz III).

yep. Benoa- try the jazz III XL. They have the same pointy tip but are bigger so you dont keep dropping them haha.

I was using the Ultex sharps for a bit but I found the wear on the Ultex to be too fast, at least at the thicknesses I favour. They feel and sound great when new though.

Those little red pointy bastards are killer =) I love Jazz III's they are really good once you get use to them. They seem to last forever also.

The one drawback I've found with the Jazz IIIs is you lose a bit of the dynamic aspect of picking vs a regular-sized, more flexible pick. You can adjust your grip on them to pick a bit softer, but they're easy to flip out that way as well.
And pick slides/scrapes aren't as good.

However, I just can't get the same speed with a regular pick like I can with the Jazz IIIs.

Day 3 with the Jazz III... I noticed that you have to play more "gently"/"smoother" with these. Keeping doing scales and exercises everyday to get used to them.

Well... Here's my first one after three days of abuse to see what it got.

I have had a similar experience. I use a regular-shaped Ultex for acoustic playing and it has indeed worn down so I was quite disappointed that they were advertised as indestructible. However, for electric playing, I recently made the switch from black Stiffo Jazz IIIs (which I was using for several years and already last quite a long time themselves) to Ultex Jazz IIIs and they retain their shape and sharp point even with my aggressive playing.

I used the jazz III sometimes..

They made it easier for me to play lead parts, fast picking.

Personally I like thrash metal.. And I used to use them for rythm parts. But when we got together with the band, and the other guitarist played with the classic pick, I was loosing on the "attack" of the sound.. On the crunch.(and my fingers would touch the strings, especially when i would be standing up) I could play nice leads, but the rthym parts were just too soft.. So now I use the Dunlop Blackline 100
