  • RATT: Lay It Down

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but does anyone know where I can find the right tab for Lay it Down. Especially the intro. I know I'm hearing more cords or something in there.

I can't load the Songsterr link at work, but there's an excellent how-to on YouTube. It's broken into two parts (one for the rhythms, one for the solo). I'll find it later and dig it up, but I think it's the most accurate version I've seen. This might be it, I can't load it here:

He misses a few notes in the solo, but his main riff is dead on. For the riff it's all in the strong attack on the strings like Warren does. That's what he means by "play it like pinch harmonics".
Two guitars are better than one.

The stretches are a bitch at first. Not sure if the C power chord is correct towards the end of intro. Sounds better w/o the C note at the third fret 5th string. Still best version I've ever heard.

on the kramer forum I made a thread about lay it down. everyone plays it differently, I can never seem to get it just right myself....

                    here is the thread....

So how do YOU play Ratt's Lay It Down?
K, so I am a big ratt fan. I have searched high and low for correct tab for everything from the Invasion of your Privacy album. Its one of my favorites. Robbin and Warren's guitars sound awesome....like some sort of cool extension of eddie's brown sound.

anyway, I shelled out 45 bucks on ebay for the Invasion tab book and its just not accurate. I thought it would be since the out of the cellar and dancing undercover books pretty much seem perfect......accurate tabs for each guitar and each lead and fill......

All the books are hal leondard guitar tab books but the invasion book is transcribed by mark phillips while out of the cellar and dancing undercover are done by wolf marshall....

the invasion book is done basicall as 1 guitar and without half of the fills......wish I had known..

anyway, so I also bought the young guitar warren magazines and the hard to find rare one that is all warren and robbin......they have some great stuff and seems accurate...

except...Lay it down. Maybe its my poor ears, but I simply can never find the right way to play this.....
searching youtube all the time I have found a number of people playing it different ways...

this is the best and seemingly the closest I have ever heard anyone play it....warrens part it seems only....

that seems to be the most accurate...that slide from the (D) 5th fret on A string to (E) 7th fret on A string seems the most accurate to me of the signature riff.

then this guy makes it sound good but is playing it different...seems close

and finally the way I see most playing it which I think is from learning from online tabs which I suspect orginated from the mark phillps transcription in the book.
I think someone requested this song a while ago....I couldnt decide which solo/tone i liked better so i left them both in there...2009 Jackson PC1Digitech RP...

anyway just curious. I love the invasion album and I have had a real hard time finding accurate stuff...and I know I should learn by ear but I just dont have the ability or the time....I need the help of tab to put it altogether....I just play for fun anyway...

cant wait to see how you guys play it

That's the way I learned it many years ago but it's wrong. If you watch Warren play it, it's done with a power chord D at the start. The video's that sausageofpower posted are 99% correct. I just learned it that way and it's more difficult to play but much more accurate. The only thing I plan to do different is anchor off the dropped D instead of the D on the A string - it sounds heavier that way.
